As most of you in the chat know, my map will involve both team's production of a new, fast way to transport gravel, and to bury the competition (literally). Here is a concept draw of the rocket.

Let me know If anyone can help me on this.

If you want it to look anywhere near good it should look like a giant hypodermic needle except instead of the needle part there is a cone and instead of the bottom there are rocket fins and jet boosters.

you'd want it to look like the rocket from tintin ?
or are you digging the freaky weird needle idea :D ?

edit: kinda like this ? i think using 3 instead of the 4 legs would work better, especially with the valve rocket bottom, that could be incorporated. the gravel itself i didn't model in so far. should be no problem, though in the end :)
just tell, me whether i shall finish it, and if so, upload/send a vmf with the dimensions you are going for, so i have a base to work further on from :)

Holy crap.

Edit; you should make the top a different model so you can let it open/close using func_rotating_button or whatever's working!

Looking good acumen, here are my comments:

-Fins look too cartoony. Thin them a bit, make them squarer and give them a plate with a few small bolts so they look properly attached.
-The fins probably shouldn't extend so far past the engine nozzles, you don't want to melt them off!!!
-Looks a little stubby, make it taller.
-Add some more engine stuff, Engines of the 60s had little (compared to the nozzles!) spheres dotted around them. The nozzles also look a little stubby.

:) really good start though.

I think the fins should be more pointy as they don't look particularly appealing as they are right now.

woa, didn't expect to cause that numerous replies, guys :D
was just planned as a small modeling practise - thanks for your feedback though, definately going to take all of these into consideration !

i just traced the fins of the concept art to be honest :D
they reminded me of the tintin rocket a bit, but i choose to just model them like on the concept and wait for cyked's first answer, so i could take it further from there.
overall i imagined the rocket to be quite similar to valves rocket - texturing wise - clean and simple colors.

and like i wrote the turbines are just taken from the valve model.
i'd love to hear that engine suggestions cleared up a bit, YM, since once more i failed to understand :D
yet, i'm sure to try it out, how it feels and looks, but i think the original valve one, hadn't had too much engine stuff, neither.

some references for the fins, that i gathered incase they might get replaced (which i hope, so it's less mickey mouse cartoony but more tf2-cartoony):

This is amazing. I am working on the layout for my last point as we speak. I should be done in a day or two. I'll send you the vmf then.

Also, This if possible. I would like the map to take place while the rocket is still being filled.

what about the fins ? you like the things the guys suggested or are visible on the reference pictures i posted ?
maybe we should have a blind date on steam or icq, to discuss this a bit - cause there's other things to discuss as well, i think :)

just wanted to post the compiled model, that we ended up. we thought we shouldn't make the model too complicated, so we didn't incorporate more detail on the engine parts. i just rememberd that YM is the nasa expert himself - so that's thin ice i was skating on ^^
replaced the fins, included some tapes to hold the fins together and made the top separated :)
excited to see it in cykeds map soon :)

edit: oops slight cutout mistake on the blue top part - clear lack of photomanipulation skills ;D

Make a skybox version. Make a skybox version. MAKE A SKYBOX VERSION.

Why needs skybox versions when you can have a rocket that's SIXTEEN TIMES AS BIG AS THIS ONE!? Imagine the amount of gravel that thing could rocket!

Gravel looks weird like it's a part of a giant ball of a dough.
