annoying hammer issue

I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden -
if I have the brush selected and am close enough, I will get this stupid grid view

Anybody know what I can do to get rid of it?

3D Grid is turned on, just click it to turn it off.

We have all of the hammer (pre update) buttons as emoticons for situations just like this.
