Murderball 2010
The 7th version of my 3rd map. A remake of the TFC map "Murderball".

Objective
Like the original TFC map, the objective in Murderball 2010 is to run to the center of the map and grab the ball. For every 10 seconds you dare to hold it, your team will score 1 point and you will be a glorious hero.

When dropped, the ball will return to the center of the map where it will wait for the next pickup.

Yellow/green base
Capture the green or yellow base to gain control of it and activate its health and ammo items for you and your team.

Thanks
Octoplasm for his soccerball model

Murderball, huh. Sounds like a bloody good time :D. Never played TFC, but I still like the idea. I think it's cool that you want to keep the TFC format to the map, but maybe you could release a custom version after this which adds more class balance.

Q: Why only team points and no player points for holding the ball?
A: It's not possible to award an individual player points in TF2.

That simply isn't true. Parent a cap zone to it for each team, set the cap time to the maximum value and from there you can set incremental score values, just like in Payload.

I think that it would be better to make it Team based, just for gameplay. It would make it not just another Halo 3 remake. It Team Fortress 2-ifies it.

I'd love to see a 4 team version, but I can understand that must take a great deal of work. Plus, you'd need to come up with good acronyms for YLO and GRN, or something like that, heh. Then a custom map menu would have to be made as well, but the 4 team dynamic is part of what made Murderball so awesome (as long as the server had autobalance, which wasn't as common in the TFC era).

I never played Halo, but I looked at the map description and yes, the objective is more or less the same...

Pseudo did this alread.

Can you give me a link to his map? I searched for it but I can't seem to find it.

Does it have the 'true' TFC Murderball objective (just points for holding the ball, no flag-capping or CP-capping)? Before I started working on this map, I checked out some Murderball remakes, but all I found were flag-capping and CP-capping versions of it. Mine has the 'true' TFC Murderball objective.

About the four teams: yes it's possible. But I didn't look into it (yet). What I have read about it is that it just aren't 'true' yellow/green teams like in TFC.

That simply isn't true. Parent a cap zone to it for each team, set the cap time to the maximum value and from there you can set incremental score values, just like in Payload.

I did a lot of research on it and tried to implement it in the map, but I couldn't get player points to work. During my research a lot of people said to me that player points weren't possible in TF2. But I guess I was wrong, I'll look into it. Thanks.

Awarding player points too for holding the ball can encourage people to go and rush out for the ball.

It appears that Pseudo never did a public release. My apologies.

Well I think I'm going to make the standard port statement:
Because it's ported, more or less, I suggest that you change the layout to serve more to TF2. I say this with sightlines in mind.

Do you mean you expect this to be a sniperfest?

On first sight you would expect it. And it's partly true. But all of you who played the original Murderball know that this was part of the charm of the map. Running zig-zag for the ball 'banzai-style', hoping some teammates would back you up by killing the enemy-snipers.

Hmmm, I remember testing the download and it seemed to be okay. I'll look into it... thanks...

Please do. I'm willing to give this game mode a dedicated server for a couple of months to see if it can gain any traction.

OK...a number of problems with this map/game mode.

1. textures in spawn are pink/black checkerboard
2. The map needs some kid of scoreboard

brush in the BLU/RED base
- Made some small texture improvements

2. The map needs some kid of scoreboard

1. This will be fixed in the upcoming release.
2. I'm currently figuring out how to implement this in Murderball 2010. It is high upon my wishlist too.
