Even Though using carvings to replace Displacements is SO Evil I cannot describe its well.. Evilness. If youMade the Block you use all Nodraw and then Painted a texture over the top, would that work? Even though I have no intention of Being the Mapping Devil, Would it Be better than the Original Carving replacing Displacements?

Yes, I've seen that, but are you asking if Carving with a block-type brush would be bad?

Carving with any texture yields the same result, if that's your question.

I think what he meant was...

If you used carve tool on a block with nodraw, and only applied normal textures to the part you see, would it work, etc etc.

Still a horrible idea. Just stick to displacements.

So I'm clear, the original question was, is it ok to use the carve method to create uneven ground so long as you use nodraw on the brush being carved?

The issue with carvin in that video isn't the faces being rendered in game. The issue is the amount of geometry created by this.. VIS will hate you.

Also OP, what is with the random capitalisation of words in your posts

My head hurts.

My question to OP is: Why are you carving displacements? The only reason I can think of to do so is if you wanted to put a hallway in the side of a cliff wall, but even then, having 8 displacements around the opening would suffice. Sew is your friend, not food.

WHy would you even do this? It's easier to simply displace!

Unless you needed it to be tied to an entity or something...
