Hello

I would like to know is it possible to use different skybox in the same map? Different zones exemple 1 zone is the night and another 1 is the day?

Thank you!

nope however.

If you wanted to get creative you could make the skybox image day/night and use it as a texture.

This should be something we could ask valve to do. They made it so we could create our own "Weather" particles now, so why not this?

It's a little more complex than that!

The weather thing was already in TF2 for Sawmill and Viaduct, just not available to mapmakers. Doing something like this, however, would require recoding a good chunk of the engine.

If I remember, L4D2 did this too though, or at least COULD do this, but it was a bit different than how the original poster described it

You know if they make this possible, some bastard will make a map with an insanely fast cycle rate on the skymap that will make the cyberpunk map look like a child's nightlight. :)

L4D2 had some quite big changes in the engine. Thats also a reason why it runs alot smoother than tf2. Basicly as all downsides slowly get removed. Also, in l4d2 its for all players and regardless of the area.

A trick that however might work is to use the 2d skybox (there is a diffirent tool texture for it which should give the effect you want) at 1 area and the 3d skybox at the other one. The night one is the 2d skybox most likely as it needs far less detail anyway. The 3d skybox however has a huge box arround it that acts like a regular skybox. its not perfect though.

L4D2 changes skyboxes by literally changing BSPs. Each chapter of a campaign is a seperate map, and they progress through them. Thats why you get a long loading screen after each chapter, and thats why the skybox can be different, a la hard rain.

Source does not support having more than one skybox per BSP.

With a fair bit of hacking through the 3d skybox, one could possibly get it working. Set the 'textured' skybox to your night sky, put tools/blocklight all over your dark skybox and use a 3d skybox for the day section. Simply make a fullbright dome with the skybox texture on it, that's ridiculously big. Or maybe vfig (I think it was him) can tell you how he did the earth in his cpoint entry.
