About four hours ago, a Tupolew-154 with 96 of the most important politicians of Poland, including the president Lech Kaczyński and his wife, crashed while attempting to land in Smoleńsk, Russia. The Polish officials were traveling to Russia for the 70th anniversary of the Katyń massacre, in which 22,000 Polish officers were mass-murdered by the Soviets in WWII. There were no survivors; this has been called the greatest tragedy in the history of Poland.

Don't blame Russia. We'll end up with a war on our hands. Let the United Nations handle this without any anti-Russian bias.

We really need to have something in place to stop these necro posts. Like a warning "Hey, this map hasn't been posted to in over a year; are you sure you wanted to dredge this up?" and actual consequences for doing it for no good reason.

I'm okay with necro bumps, they're part of every forum community and they aren't horribly rampant here enough for me, personally, to think that something is worth doing over it.

Could a warning work about "do you want to bump this thread thats X months old?" eh, maybe. I don't think it's a big enough issue to warrant the possible time needed to implement a system.

~however~ the issue that does happen *every single time* a thread is necro'd like this, is that people come in and point out that it was necro'd. This DEFINITELY doesn't contribute to whatever the thread was talking about. If you see a thread that is necro'd and you feel it's kind of silly... Ignore it! Don't jump into the thread to point out the thread's old. Everyone here has accidently (for one reason or another) necro'd a thread. You don't need to point it out to someone who's done it once or twice. If it's a big problem, the admins probably already know about it, you don't need to point it out or argue any more.

tl;dr: If someone necro's a thread and you have nothing to contribute to the thread topic. IGNORE IT.

In this case it's a news story from 5 years ago. There's absolutely nothing to contribute.
