A New Gamemode Proposal

I recently had an idea for a map where the payload cart moves on it's own, and Blue must defend it from being destroyed by the Red Team. After going through a few possible ideas, I ended up with one:

The bomb moves through an area in some way close to the ground.
It is followed by a capture area entity.
Red must capture this area and hold it for an undetermined amount of time, so they can plant an explosive on the side of the bomb.
If the bomb is not recaptured by Blue and the time limit is reached, the bomb explodes, causing red to win.
Basically, Blue's objective is to protect the cart as it makes it's way through the level. At some intervals, instead of checkpoints, the bomb will stop, making it easier for the other team to capture. There's still a few things that need to be worked out, but I think it makes enough sense. The most important thing is whether to display the bomb's capture or it's path.

This... might work, I think? Can't immediately see anything extremely wrong with it. It would be best to just get a quick prototype out and test it on gameday.

so it's like escort/protect the civilian bomb?

Lol, everyone would just go sniper or demoman and destroy it in like one second.

Edit: 12 100% shots from snipers = ~1800 damage.

8X12 = 48 Sticky grenades = ~4800 damage.

Instead of destroying the "bomb", or whatever you plan to make it look less like a payload map, the cart gets slowed or pushed back. Meaning that Red's objective is damaging the car, which will slow it. Blu's objective would be killing Red.

If that were an acceptable solution to what honorum646 mentioned, my idea is that the defending engineer can wacky the "bomb" to fix it if damaged.

This might be difficult. Only answer I can think of is Engies. Easy way to fix it would be to let them heal the payload with their wrenchs. This could be a good game mode. The level design wouldn't change much either.

i don't like it because it's too similar to the current payload. The basic concept around this is that to win red has to gain control of the area around the payload and blu has to keep that from happening for an extended period of time. That is essentially how the current payload, except regular payload has more usage for engineers

also, you are wrong about a static payload at certain points helping the attacking team. a large part of defense is essentially camping, and when the payload is moving it takes away the ability for a team to easily camp, making defense harder.

Half a Lambert is better than one.

Please re-read the OP.

Interesting concept; it reminds me of King of the Train, only with a control point that goes in a linear path instead of a cycle, and in attack/defend mode. Although with the cart moving on its own I'm not entirely sure which team is really doing which, here.

So kind-a like the gamemode from unreal tournament 3 destroy the core, only it's moving.
I like the idea and i hope it goes well. :)

Please upload a prefab and a test map asap :)

You definitely read it wrong.
The objective is to stay near the cart and capture it in a way, shooting it doesn't do anything.

If you had a comment relating to this, can you please change it in some way? Something actually helpful?
