This map was made using the tf2maps swamp theme pack, if you want to make a map using the models/textures you can download the pack here but it is not required to play the map.
I made this map because I loved the swamp theme pack released on this site and was disappointed to see how few maps had been made with these great models and textures.

Crazy Pete's Bog is a fully playable payload map featuring five cap points in one stage similar to Badwater Basin. The blue team unloads from a train which they just drove into town and need to move their payload through a swamp logging camp, caves, bayou back country and finally along the waterfront to blow up the red teams swimming hole.

Includes enough spawn points to handle 32 man games but probably plays better with 16-24.

Judging from the screens: Yep that is a swamp, 5/5 stars on the visual theme :)

I'll be looking forward to playing it.

Though you -need- to pack the custom content (swamp) into the bsp, that's just how things work.

As wonderful as the visuals are, it may be a little dark for play. Consider brightening it up.

Some of the detailing in this is totally awesome, while other props you sould have considered more thoroughly where you applied them. Your 5th image, for example, has spytech ibeams on a run down shack.

It looks like it needs more light, plus a lot of the lights could do with less of a yellow tint. They're practically orange in some shots.

Your payload track gets pretty clumped up with detail around it sometimes, in your third screen the mining cart, along with the wall on the left flank, forces players to push from the back or front (and ontop i guess) only. Making players very vulnerable and easy to kill. Just moving it another length along that track should prevent that, but there are other areas where the track follows a wall. You should have the track avoid being so close to walls or details if you can as it makes it difficult to push.

The spawn areas also look vulnerable to spam since they are just those small rooms.

Just to summarise:
  • more lights in open areas
  • make lights less orange/yellow
  • reduce clutter within the map, use it against walls/buildings/cliff edges and detail areas to increase player flow (unless it's specifically for cover of course).
  • consider the ramification of your BLU spawn design. maybe have 3 carts, they spawn in the middle and exit through the front and back cart maybe. A RED Kritz medic on a demo or soldier would look devastating in this scenario.

uhhhhh you're expecting every person who joins the server to play to have the swamp pack? that's a mighty big assumption. Anyone who wont will see a sea of purple textures and error models.

Get pakrat. Learn its ways, and don't ever release something without using it :/

At first, I thought it said it was Crazy Pete's Blog. Whoops.

But, the visuals are just beautiful. It's just that servers never host swamp maps.

Edit: Just tried it out. Smashing work, my friend!

wow. I tried using the swamp theme, but couldn't really make a map from it (no offense). Really nice job.

Screen 6 looks like it could be in L4D :p. Great work! One of the better swamp maps I've seen. Pack the swamp content in and it'll be golden (there are still a ton of people without the swamp pack).

New version uploaded with ambient swamp noises and packed content so the swamp theme pack is no longer required to play the map.

I'm still getting a bunch of purple stuff for the trees, etc...

Whatever is wrong, I hope it gets fixed soon! looking forward to giving this a proper test!

Sounds like possum has forgotten to pack in the textures. You need to do those manually.

(Check Ravidge's guide on pakratting, it's a beautiful thing)

Curses, foiled again. I'll see what I missed when packing. is it models that are missing textures or stuff that looks brush based?

Do you have a link to Ravidge's guide?

it looks like textures on models are the problem. most of the models seem to be showing up, they just have the infamous pink & black checkerboard.

Thanks Dr Forrester, I believe I have got all the material files for the models included now, a new version has been uploaded in the same location. This should finally remove any dependency on the swamp theme pack.

If you put the download in a .zip, you'll save a ton of bandwidth...
