Distorted cubemaps

Hello everyone, I have a problem regarding my cubemaps.
Not all cubemaps tough it seems to be only these windows.
The cubemaps are basically distorted, as seen on the pictures they do change depending on your position. I didn't build cubemaps on those screenshots so the effect is more obvious but even after they are built they still act strange.

I think it is because of the window frame brushes but I rather have a workaround then that I have to create less interesting windows ;) :p

You have to enter "mat_specular 0" in console before you build the cube maps. Then after you build use "mat_specular 1" to get things back to normal; this removes the purple checkers so when you build they don't show up in the cube maps after.

Where is the cubemap entity?
If its not in the center of the room, try putting it there.
If it is, I have no idea.

The cubemap entity was in the middle of the room at first, then I also tried putting them right in front of the windows but still failed.
I also tried assigning the glass window brush face to the cubemap entity but didn't help anything either.
The window frame first had a reflective texture so I thought that would cause it but after changing that material nothing happened.
These windows in this room are the only ones that act strange in my map and I used the same texture before in my map without any problems. But those could be seen from multiple sides so those didn't have nodraw textures on the backside but replacing the nodraw textures with glass textures in this room also didn't help.
The only thing that actually could make a difference is the window-frame-func_detail-brush around it so I tried to add it separately and it happens that it works without the window frame. I tried to clip the window frame to see it that helped anything but like all other thing I tried it didn't.
I think I tried everything but my cubemaps still end up distorted.

It looks like I really need to make new window frames then :(

As temion said, the most likely cause for this is mat_specular. Before building cubemaps be sure to set mat_specular 0, otherwise the purple checkers get build into the cubemaps.

God, we're just so used to the standard "Purple Checkers Problem - Halp Please!"

Codename, if it's only that one room that's having the trouble, and recreating the windows fixes it, go for it. It sounds like a strange problem.. Are the windows a custom texture?

Try having the windows not overlap with their frames.

He hasn't built the cubemaps because it's easier to see without them.

How on earth are they distorted. As usual somebody gets it when not wanting to.

delete the env_cubemap(s) and/or brushes, rebuild, recompile on full...


pl_gorge? I'm actually kinda interested because I'm a huge pl fan.
