Sound bug: game mutes in my map randomly

This may sound fairly bizarre, but It has been haunting me for a long while. Sometimes, while players are playing in my map (only happens with less then 10 players) a player will complain that after he dies, his entire sounds cuts out. The only thing he can hear, is the voice communication. After a death or sometimes 2, the sound returns.

I'm working on a fairly wide open map, so I'm curious if that is a clue to my problem. However I don't hear about this bug on surf maps, which are absolutely massive compared to mine so I'm just not sure.

I'm in the final debugging stage of my current (and most likely last) map project, and before i release it, i really need this error fixed. But i'm just at a loss. i don't see any errors in hammer or in the compile log, but this bug still persists.


Anyone have any ideas?

Doubt it's the map size. This has happened to me when playing certain versions of ctf_bball

Yea a lot of my testers tell me it happens to them in other maps sometimes too. However, all of them attest it never happens in a valve map. That has to mean it is an issue with a solution.

No one has any idea? Does anyone have any idea how i can at least find what is causing it?

The only time I have had sound blank out was when I had too many sounds occur at once.
Example:: If the annoncer is in the middle of some line, a player does a vocalization and an explosion goes off. I have heard the announcer get cut-off in midsentence.

I have never had it go completely silent.
