Death's Door

I've been playing around with a CTF map and been considering the following sadistic setup -- basically a slide door with two bulletproof/rocketproofed windows on either side so that the engie can see through the door. Put a sentry behind the door, the trigger of the door is such that when the engie is in the tank position the door is open, otherwise it's closed. By manipulating the door the engie can protect the gun from sticky attacks.

The reason for this is the servers I've been on have players so good at demo man and soldier that no one wants to play engie anymore.

Is there a question attatched to this?

Musing mostly, but wondering about the balance implications of it. I'm considering having it watch only the most direct approach to the intelligence, allowing it to be bypassed by a more round about route that takes longer to follow. I'm not entirely sure though.

In short: Terrible idea.

Fine and well enough, but how do you fine tune the survivability of the sentries?

Give them a bit more cover and smaller areas, but spots that can't be edged. I would say the door would be a bit overpowered, as it would be virtually impossible to take out, unless flanked or the engineer stops paying attention and holds it open.

Not saying it's a terrible idea though. You could very well find a way to properly balance it, but keep in mind a sentry that is really hard to take out will most likely end up breaking the map.

Just make sure a uber rush could take it out, basically.

And geez, guys. That's not very friendly at all. The guy was simply running an idea by you. Instead of just being like "bad idea." try giving him some sort of a clue as to why it is, perhaps? You know, helping?
