I just blue screened for the first time ever on windows 7, EVER, and it was because of Hammer. Go figure right? Sometimes I hate Hammer, what do you hate about it? Also when the displacements get stuck on mouse click and it moves off into infinity.

Nothing really bugs me about Hammer per se..

There is an annoying bug i get if Hammer gets interrupted by another program, or my RAM goes tits up in the middle of manipulating a displacement vertex, i can't stop the damn thing from growing. I have to click another tool so it stops displacement editing (forever) and then "undo" the last move that made the thing go crazy.

Accidently merging displacement vertices is kinda annoying too, especially if you've put a lot of work into a given displacement before realising. But you can just fix that by adding "noise", and re-sewing the displacement back into place afterwards.

These arn't exactly Hammer's fault, more user error and my own fualt for only having 2gb RAM. But still annoying.

Hit "Enter" Joodude...

Then reselect the vertices you want to edit.

It's really annoying when I paint geometry on a displacement and Hammer somehow reads my input as two clicks, so it goes too far up/down/somewhere. Happens too often to be a minor issue to me.

It annoys me how Hammer only remembers the last four maps that have been opened.

It also annoys me how it eats up memory like mad... seems like it doesn't matter how much you have, it'll consume it on a lengthy session and you have to restart to get it back down.

Hm, other than those two things, the rare crash isn't a big deal (I hit cntrl-s anytime I change something).

I've had the vertex edit tool stop working and have to restart Hammer to fix it. In fact, because of this I thought the tool just plain didn't work at first; it had already broken by the time I tried it.

Also the fact that the compile output freezes in Vista/7 because of overzealous checking for unresponsiveness. I'm sure there's a way around this; it's just that they stopped updating Hammer like five years ago.

And why doesn't compiling automatically build cubemaps? It's part of the compile process, isn't it? There should at least be an option in the Run Map dialog to enable it.

Creating a selection box in the Vertex Editing tool

That damn blue box will NEVER GO AWAY EVEN WHEN YOU CLICK OFF THE TOOL

I have to reopen my map every time.

Its a selection box. Press enter to finish the selection you started. carry on as normal.

I wish that determining the active axis for certain items, like rotating doors, were a bit more intuitive. Not just an origin point, but an indication of which axis it is currently set to rotate around.

And I 2nd the vote on runaway mouse-click displacement painting.

A smaller toolbar would be nice. I know, I know, use the keyboard shortcuts... in that case, just a single tool icon to indiacte the tool currently selected. Also a built-in list of keyboard shortcuts, or more indicators of toggled settings would be nice.

For me the biggest issue is definitely the memory gorging Hammer goes through. Whenever I start doing a bit of texture browsing it isn't long before the whole thing shits a brick.

But seriously, I wub Hammer. YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!

I can't click select brushes in the side view.

You can select them via their bounding boxes or origins provided you have the right 2D view options selected in your options menu.

I can't navigate with camera when choosing multiple faces of an object, but I can with choosing whole objects themselves :|

Doors.

They've done nothing but give me grief for the (admittedly small) time I've ever used the program. >_>

they're quite easy if you sit down and study the mechanics for an hour :)

I hate it how the model browser often freezes, so i always have to restart hammer.

THIS!

although, i don't restart hammer, it will just not respond, except i can close the browser and reopen it, yet it still won't respond.

to fix, i just clone the model and then it will work again, but NOT for the original.

Opening hammer to find out that you couldnt get out of camera view no matter what tool you selected.

Before I found out you could fix it by pressing space...

The only problem I have is the occasional crash (which reminds me to save) and how in l4d one can't freelook 50% of the time while the texture browser is open. Seems like a pretty specific gripe, now that I think about it. Otherwise I find hammer to be one of the most intuitive and friendly world designers around.
