Sup fellas,

I have an Idea Ive been meaning to test and wanted to know how feasible it is, in your eyes.

Have you ever seen those maps where the author did something wrong with the 3d skybox that makes player models and such get projected onto the 2d sky box? I was wondering if I could intentionally use that to display action going on in a room.

We have this monthly contest at the ville, "Melee mania". Id love to make a map where everyone has the option to go into a "theatre" where the fighting is projected on to the "movie screen"

...any thoughts on where I should begin my trial and error?

maybe sky_camera is not the way, maybe theres some kind of known working system for this. I have no clue! :D

thanks in advance.

point_camera didn't work when I last tried it in TF2. Admittedly, that was a couple of months back, so they might have fixed it since.

Can you use point_cameras and more importantly, func_monitors in TF2?

Your skybox idea does actually sound pretty interesting though! The only thing is you'd have to make sure sky is used nowhere else but the "screen".

I've been trying to get cameras working with no luck so far. Didn't think about using a sky_camera, that's a great idea. Stuck with 16x size though.

Ya I was thinking the whole entire map would be inside, and the one piece of sky would be like a big movie screen... you could edit the skybox material to be plain white even maybe?

yea, this is a dissapointment to say the least..

:(

i wheep silently while i hope for such a thing in the future

what about just having a telelporter go into the 3d skybox and make a theater room with the skybox as the screen?

I have been doing this now for about a month now on a modified version of Mario_Kart I host with no problems so far. I started off by building a invisible box around where the 'main' map would sit in the skybox to prevent people from standing on it and making things look all wonky with a massive SG sitting in the middle of the map. You would do the same and just cut up the skybox so that only 1 side is playable. Then the players will be forced into that area and only visible from that side of the main map. Add a tele in and one out or make a one way trip.

You can see an example of it in this video a couple mins into it.

Or more precisely at 1:15 or so for those who don't want to start watching at 2 mins and then sit through 3 minutes of engie turtling only to have to go back and watch the whole thing from the beginning again!

:D

this worked exactly as I wanted it...

set up two rooms, one with a sky_camera in it

The other room has one wall textured with sky

teleported a bot into the camera area and he shows on the "sky wall" perfect in real time

movie screen!
