TF2 beta muzzle flash (yes im a madman)

Ever since I first saw this effect in trailer 2, I wanted to get it to work ingame again. And i know what you're going to say "its a model, the new muzzle flash is a particle". yes it is, but here is my idea. we add the muzzle flash mesh to the minigun's world and view models.

as for the view model is concerned, you move the muzzle flash off screen in all animations except the firing animation, in theory it should work perfectly.

the third person model is a little bit trickier, but hey the minigun has that huge drum, so you could hide the mesh there. but the problem seems to be that the minigun may use the same third person animation for firing as it does when spooled up


now here is my list of problems

- the gun barrel doesn't animate in hlmv, maybe thats something the game controls?

- I cant seem to be able to decompile animations correctly, I'm pretty sure its cannon fodders mdldecompler (v0.5 f anyone cares)

anymore info on this would be helpful

...can't you just make a particle that looks like the muzzle flash? If not, why? Any specific lighting things that only a model can achieve?

The animations for firing and just spinning are the same.

so i discovered in an ingame test, well at the moment this seems impossable for third person, also the muzzle flash materail has some wierd refraction effect that show up through walls, so for first person this may still be possable. all though it does make me kinda sad not to be able to see a heavy rush with this. maybe valve should make it an advancemultiplayer option to reenable it.
