Game Day Part VIII recap

  • Most successful to date with some minor problems:
    • Rotation was 30 minutes fast.
    • Lack of TF2Maps admin presence after 6:00 pm
  • Things to work on for this upcoming game day:
    • Is there some way to tell the rotation to start from the begining at a set time? (as in, at 4:00 pm I say, "Start the rotation from the beginning at this time")
    • I will not be available for Saturday, and most likely not ALL of sunday, so we need to ensure that we have an admin presence on the servers.
Game Day Part IX
When:

  • April 5th and April 6th for reasons stated below.
  • Time: April 5th I suggest a starting time for 1:00 pm EST (5:00 pm GMT)
  • Time: April 6th, 4:00 pm EST (8:00 pm GMT, 1:00 pm PST)
Where:

  • Server configuration request / statement:
    • rtv turned off please
    • 30 minute map rounds
    • Start with testing maps, 30 minutes a map flexibly guaranteed. (aka if something goes wrong dont hate us)
    • Testing starting times are flexible as seen in the last game day, try to be there before your testing time is scheduled, if you miss it due to game day problems or just miss it (why god why?) I noticed some people took demos last game day hopefully they will be nice again.
  • April 5th: TF2Maps.net partner server Colt's Playground: 84.45.84.166:27015
    • Link should connect you straight to the server
  • April 6th: TF2Maps.net Official Server: 8.12.19.105:27015
    • Oh... did we forget to mention we have an official user supported server now? My bad....
    • Server will be / Is donation supported, the details are being worked out.
    • Server is centrally located, in Cincinnati my ping is 5, DJive was jealous (his was 40).
Maps:

  • Get your submissions in fast, this is a short notice game day again so I am putting the submission deadline at 4:00 pm EST April 4th.
  • If submissions are short, beware I will pad the map list and I know you all hate when I do that (seriously, you do :crying:)
  • *note* we will most likely NOT have a password on the server so any maps submitted can still be download by the general public and there is a chance they might like it enough to try and post it to the internet without first asking permission. Keep this in mind.
  • Map Submission Protocol
    1. All debate over what maps are submitted, what maps are played, etc must be handled in this thread PRIOR to the game day. Once the map submission deadline is passed the rotation is set. Map rotation changes should not happen on the actual game day, you will have multiple days to air your woes prior to the actual game day.
    2. There will be two parts to the game day:
      1. Map Testing
      2. General get together where we play maps requested by our members in this thread.
    3. Map Testing will take place first, all maps submitted for testing purposes with receive 30 minutes of play time. Map testing slots will be assigned as maps come in.
    4. During General get together we will play the maps requested in this thread
  • Please include the following information when submitting a map:
    1. Map Name (ex. ctf_CoolestMapEver_b1)
    2. Link to map download (ex. http://www.coolsite.com/ctf_coolestMapEver_b1.bsp )
    3. Map is for testing: Yes / No
    4. Optional: Map Discussion thread

I'm yet again going to say no to submitting bloodstained for it since the 30 minute limit was introduced as 30 minutes would totaly misrepresent it :(

For testing: cp_siege_alpha2.
I'm flexible with times--I'll be around most of the time on the Saturday, and hopefully some of the Sunday session as well.

Download it here (7zip, 1.5MB)

Let me also note. Both TF2Maps.net and Colts Playground servers WILL be running SourceTV.

What this means is that the games will be fully auto recorded and when viewing them you will have the ability to fly around were you want, hear and see chat from the recorded game.

I'm going to try to get a new version of crackalley done for the weekend, but I'm not sure I will hit the friday deadline. Would it be possible to submit one for the sunday game only?

Yes, Sunday only is fine, as long as you get it to me by 12:00 pm EST sunday (gives me time to figure out the whole upload / set rotation business)

I won't be able to make it, but in my stead I think cp_roswell would like to attend in the "Fun" map category. =)

Done.

Thanks guys for doing this my map name : cp_starlight

download: http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/50912

That is a great name.

As of now the first post is updated, I will try to get one more update in before the Friday cut off for the Saturday game day.

If the first post is not updated would one of the other admins please update my post and PM Colt Seavers on both here and the Colts Playground forum telling him we need some server changes?

@Youme: Surely 30 minutes of testing is better than nothing? Noone is going to be rating your map for the contest based on this. TBH if you want your map to be really popular shouldn't it be playable for both short and long times? ;)
Personally I like nice and long games where you have lots of time to get used to a map and have a sense of accomplishment when you win. But that clearly isn't workable on a map testing server.

@Pseudo I downloaded your map the other day to see how you managed the KOTH thing and it looked like a lot of fun. Really looking forward to seeing how it plays out with a 24 man server.

Fantastic! Where will the recorded version be available after the game day?

If you think you could get a decent game of dustbowl into half an hour then its fine but I really don't think half an hour is long enough for the majority of mulitple stage maps because in their very nature they take longer, three 10 to 15 minute maps in one easily exceeds the time limit for just one team to be attacking which of course will only get the first two rounds played and only one team get to attack. Not having it in the gameday isn't a problem really beacuse its been in the rotation of both our teamplay server and our maplab server so its had plenty of unadulterated air time
