If you don't know what Stargate is, google it. Or watch it.

So i was just watching Continuum, and came up with the idea of making a Stargate map. Probably a Payload version; BLU bringing Naquadah (Google it, if you don't know what it is) to a critical point for RED. Preferably a Stargate, a weapon or some sort of thing found in the universe. (Hell, it could be a giant version of Sandvich)
I may be using this idea if no one will. Hopefully i get enough training with the skybox and custom textures.
And hey: Just an idea. Don't sue me.

An awesome map could be based on stargate SG1, Where you start outside and push the cart though the tunnel at Cheyenne Mountain complex and though the stargate it's self.

And this fits TF2 how?
I assume that tf2 is based some time in world war2, The stargate was found way before world war 2 and the Cheyenne Mountain complex was setup just before the war. So with the right textures and stuff I think it COULD work. Would be interesting.

It doesn't fit the theme of TF2 at all. Just because it may be an obsessive show doesn't mean that it works in a particular theme.

Let me explain the most important explanation that will ever be heard by you.
Nobody.
Cares.
About.
Star gate.

Here's a more in depth version:
You're like one of those people who create the slash fic that crosses over star trek and lord of the rings. You completely abuse the ability to cross various worlds over, and everyone hates and despises you for it.

And by the way, whatever you do do NOT read the star trek/LotR slash fic. I will not say why for fear of scarring your mind forever, I'm still having nightmares about it.

Seriously, this has nothing to do with level design. You can completely design a normal map without having to come up with an excuse as to why it's there. You don't even need an excuse, as long as it looks optimised etc and is loke other TF2 maps in terms of visual style. Remember haywood? I never found out what the hell it was supposed to be.

cool unnecessary flaming, bro.

Honestly, I don't care about the visuals as much as the gameplay. If the mapmaker can make a map that somehow plays well while still keeping with the Star Gate theme, I'd still play it regardless of it not fitting in with the rest of the TF2 theme.

People get bugged with a few HL2 textures in a TF2 map. Now, a stargate themed TF2 map... To be frank I think it's not a great idea. There's really not a decent way to blend the two themes without a massive degree of modeling and texturing.

I thought a little Stargate easter-egg would work well in an Egypt themed map.

Not a single custom model or texture involved. Just the sound.
But since Numerous is so against it, I will be sure to never include it in a release map.

So if it doesn't look and feel like every other TF map, it's crap and people hate innovation? ... Yeah let's go ahead on disregard your opinions, as they are just opinions ...

About the map idea:
Just a PL where at the end, say, a stargate dials out as you get to the last point and the cart goes though? Decent enough idea, but it's likely been done already. I for one approve of anything that brings something even mildly new to the table. I am tired of maps all looking the same as the last 10 I played, but obviously those that share this opinion are limited in numbers... which is odd, or people just voice their thoughts poorly and make it seem this way.
More importantly, would this be your first map? I do NOT recommend this as a first map for TF2, it is a vastly different game to map for and there are more elements to consider. That said, if this isn't your first, research around to see if it's been done. If not, go for it. :p
