I wanna play with my ding-a-ling!

But I can't.

I saw the hilarious videos on youtube with "YEAH TOAST!~" sound files and whatnot, but I decided to try using the nifty Call of Duty hitsound, because well, I play CoD4 and MW2 and I enjoy the thud you get.

So I follow the instructions and all, putting it into the sounds folder, fired up the game, put in the console commands and killed somebody in the server.

Nothing.

So I checked the console.

Failed to load sound "ding_a_ling_cod.wav", file probably missing from disk/repository

So I deleted said file and then tried using the default one just to see if it worked.

Failed to load sound "ding_a_ling.wav", file probably missing from disk/repository

<insert "ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff" image>

Verified my cache and whatnot- nada, still got the same error.

Anybody got an idea as to what the hell has happened?

is the sound file you're using an .mp3? if so source wont play it if the sound being replaced is a .wav. your best bet is converting it to a .wav

audacity is a free sulotion but you need to install the lame mp3 encoder open mp3s and export to other formats(ogg, wav)

Nah mate, it's a wav file, I'm not that daft :p

It's really scary because it won't even find the default bell sound anymore.

Lol that's what the .wav is for, mang. Also, I don't think this is the right forum for this, try going to mapping help and discussion, even though technically this isn't mapping, I think you could still find some help.

If you get moved back don't blame me though :p

It's the only forum that applies to TF2 in here that isn't mapping, so I stuck it in here. :p

Also: I've removed the override and it won't even play the default file, claiming that... Don't think that's entirely my fault. :p

if its in your sound folder tf/sound/ding.wav in-game in the console it would be referred to as just ding.wav. the odd thing is that i got my sound in and was able to play it through the console but for some reason it wouldn't play in-game i didn't have any errors in the console so....idk

You don't need LAME to open MP3 files. Just to save them. Not that this is relevant anymore but I just thought I'd mention.
