Thanks to our resident coding guru, Mr. VFIG, the site will now accept your compressed .bz2 maps. This will lessen the amount of data you have to upload.

For those of you with permission to upload your maps, the server will decompress your map automatically and upload it to the game server. If you wish not to conform, you can still upload your .bsp files (you will then be flogged for not conforming).

Thanks.

edit: if you see VFIG in the server, give him a pat on the back with a crocket.

Now that this is here, I'm afraid I have to ask you to implement some way I can do it via FTP, because now the site is faster than FTP but more of a pain in the ass. :p

Doing that would require scripts running on the gameservers themselves; as I understand, we don't have the necessary level of access to them to do that. The new upload scripts just decompress the .bz2 on the web server before ftp'ing the .bsp to the game server.

Well yes, but I figured there might be a way that you could make it so I can use an FTP client to send them to the site, where something would then see them, decompress and send along to the game server.

Because with the volume of maps I upload at a time, it would make a much bigger difference to me than to a donator that does one map.

maybe a script that checks a directory every few minutes and decompresses whatever is in there and uploads to a given ftp address.

could work. not sure.
