I have 3 spots in my map where the texture lightning changes when you walk towards it. It goes from dark to bright in several steps. Why is this? This looks very dodgy when walking around. I think it's caused by HDR, but how do I solve this? Anyone familiar with the problem?

no its cuz you used a model texture
its labeled as models/(w/e texture)
use a similiar one that doesnt have the models thing on it

This also ought to be in the FAQ, cause everyone runs across it.

solution :-

-open up the texture browser with that dogey texture already selected
-look at the file name underneath the texture
-I can almost garentee it has 'prop' or 'model' before the forwardslash
-look around for an identical texture that doesnt have 'prop' or 'model' before the slash (It almost certainly will be there)
-replace the original one with this new one
-problem fixed

nothing to do with dogey lighting on your part
nothing to do with HDR
everything to do with - the .VMT file used by the texture, theres a little line in it that says "vertexlit" or "lightmappedgeneric". the first will light the texture based on the verticies - good for models. whilst the lightmappedgeneric will use a lightmap - good for walls/floors/ceilings/arches/anything-else-constructed-from-brushes

Hmm, Might have messed up then. Because I was pretty sure I picked the right texture ( was paying attention to it lately. Maybe I copied the texture from a bad brush (ie wrongly textured) in the past :(). I should have double checked :X

/me feels stupid

edit: hot damn. I screwed up in many places :X
edit2: fixed.
