In TFC, we were able to use HL materials in a map. Is that allowed in TF2, or are we supposed to limit ourselves to TF materials only?

I know if someone doesnt have a HL2 episode, the materials wouldnt load for them, but dont you have to have HL2 to play TF2? I guess the same question goes for models too.

You used to use hl textures for tfc because they are the same type of graphics

HL2 is realistic while tf2 is cartoon, which don't match

Thats why i highly suggest you dont use the hl2 models or textures in a tf2 map.

Dont get me started about the cartoony graphics. Even if you want to do an all realistic map, the player models wouldnt exactly fit. So yeah, I agree about not mixing. However, TF materials are limited, and sometimes the HL ones work better.

OK, so I have episode 2 installed (and only ep2). Is it even possible have ep1 installed and run TF2, without access to ep2 materials?

Even the TF2 dev team used HL2 textures in TF2 so I would say go right ahead. Just be very selective.
