Ok this is a pretty important question as I'm looking to recreate some of the original maps from tfc. If I made a map from the original tfc that was a valve map, would there be a problem if it became popular or just making it in general for public servers? One that they havent made yet that is that was an original valve map.

I dont think so, Avanti was remade and that is on AXL's server as one of the popular maps. However i really doubt you be able to get the remake map to WIN a Valve award

Valve wont do anything about that, why should they? There are so much remakes of tfc maps around, which were no problem for them.

Generally, remeking valve maps is not bad as they dont care about it, only if you want to remake some custom map, you better ask the mapper, if you can still find him.

Valve wont care, Id search fpsbanana & tf2maps... maybe google the map name ahead of time to make sure the maps not already been done.

I can tell you avanti, ksaur and a few others have been done.

Remaking an old map IE a port is no problem. There are no copyright infringements as long as it is none profit and that you don't claim it as your original work.

There will be no legal problems remaking maps from other games. Just don't expect it to become official for those very reasons.
