Soldiers continue to hold the lead in the war—but like an M&M lodged up their collective noses, the Demoman refuses to melt away quietly. In other M&M-Stuck-Up-Drew-Wolf's-Nose metaphor news, the Soldier's lead remains thin as a candy coating. In fact, judging from our most recent numbers (4923531 Soldiers killed to 5056134 Demomen killed), the Demo actually seems to be closing the gap as the War hurtles to a close.

For all you conscientious objectors to the war, you can still make some postwar memories to tell your grandchildren, because Team Fortress 2 is having another free weekend starting Thursday night as soon as the update goes live (though you can start preloading now).

As for all you soldiers fighting the good fight in the trenches, only to find the Demo-controlled media back home painting you as incompetent monsters, this update's for you.

Wow. This'll be interesting in comp.

Interesting as in: Shit... every match is going to end in about 2 minutes.

The Targe is retarded. This is so much better :D

it's like 130-140 HP of damage per hit :O

and it's almost twice as fast!!

-2 days left, and 3 maps, 4 weapons, and achieves left to announce
-Engineer would be left as the last one not updated
-Newspapers all have stains on them: A Coffee Ring, A Bootprint, and now Oil

I wouldn't put it past valve to try something like this. Note that the comic says "One Week Ago", and the obvious aging on the paper and comics.

I'm calling it now. The engineer is reading these papers, and the update will be delayed. "Science" will end the war.

The newspapers are dated. They are current as they document the war. The comics are the backstory leading up to the war.

Further, valve has initiated a free weekend. Those always come after an update. So it's pretty sure the update is coming when they say it is.

This is true, but there's nothing that says they can't roll out the engy update next week. ;)

The sword and shield were cute, but I thought they were a little weird for the likes of TF2. Doesn't feel like the right game. To be brutally honest, I was beginning to dread what the Soldier was going to get.
But alas, my allegiance has been rewarded with a weapon that makes me wet my pants. The upgrade to the rocket speed alone would be enough, but no, it gives crack shots a bonus as well.
The only thing I'm wondering is whether this reduction in splash damage will reduce the Soldier's rocket-jumping abilities. Hopefully not, or else this update will be discouraging the superjumps from both classes unless the secret weapon has anything to say about it.

coffee - sniper
boot - any
oil - engie

I fail to see any kind of correlation here. Tomorrow it may as well have burnt edges to show that the pyro is reading the news too.

God damn conspiracy theorists

The Direct Hit: Making Soldier EVEN EASIER to play since 2009.

Seriously, any blighter can hit something dead on when the projectile moves faster than an arrow.

What?

I think you'll find the speed increase was on rate of fire, not projectile velocity. Rockets don't travel faster than arrows.

Still need to see the other weapons, but I think I'm more impressed with the melee kit for the same reason I liked the huntsman the best out of the spy/sniper weapons: technically not as useful, but fun as hell. That's assuming the melee kit turns out to be as fun as it looks.

High damage rocket launcher - eh, that's fine I guess. They definitely played it safe with that one.
