What is happening to our youth? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?

Here's a clue: It is not McCain, but anyone who hasn't lived their life under a rock should have heard of him (another clue: male), no matter what country you live in.
Also, If you google the answer, or already know, DO NOT POST THE ANSWER.
Guesses only please.

Does having used Google on this subject a long time ago in the past count?

Widely attributed to some greek guy. Was it Herodotus? Anyway, apparently the actual records are spotty at best as to whether he said it or whether it is actually a misquote.

Edit: No, not Herodotus. I mean to say a different Greek with an H-name, but that's probably not right either, since as I said the quote seems to be very ill-sourced.

Venn?
By the way, What is unclear about "if you know, DO NOT POST"?
And also, the point of this thread is to indicate [if you know the quote and read what people inevitably say, you'll understand].

heh, I saw if you google the answer don't post and was imagining you'd started one of those cyclic threads like the guess the map one.

But since you didn't I can't work out what the point of this thread is

Here's a new one, the full name of the person who authored this quotation:

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest ........ become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.

No search engines, no quote sites

Richard Feynman, booyakasha.

I was edging towards that without the hint, and the hint made it even more obvious :D

Well, since it's already been posted, depending on who you ask it may have been Hesiod, or Plato, or Aristotle saying Plato said it, etc., but whenever you try to dig deeper it gets very hard to tell exactly where it was written, anywhere.

I highly suspect that in ancient greece similar things were a complaint of the old as well, but AFAIK it's dubious that anybody famous said that exact quote.

Wegason: I thuspect someone in wome. I haf many good fwiends in wome.

I'm guessing that's another H2G2 quote, but I can't remember what book, nor who said it.
