The Tf2 Artistic Mapping Brawl

Info:

The Tf2 AMB is a Artistic Mapping Contest that will play out through Elimination-Touranment style. There will be a round system and for each round there is a theme that the player must apply to his map from round one. Round one is a basic theme round, You build your artistic map and submit it. When the second round swings around there is a theme you must apply to your map. But it is kept secret until the round starts. There is three Judges. Myself, A lovely man named Cortez , and a Mystery Guest Judge who won't be revealed into the very end!

First round will end December 22nd of 2009. Prize for winning the contest is $20

worth of steam games or just a $20 steam game. (MAY CHANGE DEPENDING ON PEOPLE WHO ENTER)

Rules:

-Make a map for tf2.

-Your map should be playable, but needs no game mode (You have to be able to walk

around the map and be taken in it, Just not screenshot pretty!)

-As large as you want, but keep it interesting

-The point of this contest is to make a good-looking map

-Your map's design should be either completely original, or a new take on an

existing style.

-For each round/theme the map must be changed in some way, Not just texture change

and prop adding!

-Unlimited Entites.

-NO LIMITS ON SIZE

-RULES MIGHT FLUX

-Do not disappoint me

How to Sign up:

ANYONE WHO WISHES TO JOIN MUST SEND A EMAIL TO THE ADDRESS BELOW SAYING YOU WILL JOIN AND BE WORKING BEFORE MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY

Start working now, Submit your map before 22nd to cortezmappinginc(at)gmail.com , you will join the first round right when your map is received. No maps after 0:01 am on 22nd will be taken!

Submitted maps must be submitted in VMF and BSP form (With any other items like custom textures and props.) Map name must go as amb_(mapname)_(yourname)

Put your steam community name and page so we can contact you inside the email!

Also send three pictures with the email.
- A eyecandy screenshot/promo shot
- Two basic screenshots (doesn't matter on quality)

Please do not submit pictures to the thread it may give other people ideas and

help, Only after the submitting time is over you may post your map's promo shot!

First Round

Your first round map must follow the basic rules, No theme.

You may use Dev textures for this round but all other rounds dev textures are not

allowed.

Anything Else?:

You may post in this following thread for questions and queries.

I'm not sure you'll be getting much attention for this, most mappers are either burnt out/busy/in anticipation of the next major contest to participate, and the idea seems very sluggish and difficult. With no size limit most mappers will spend AGES on it, either destroying the chances of mappers with less time, or being a massive waste of their own time.

Your contest requirements arn't very definitive. It also doesn't sound very organised in the long run.

Defining a specific goal and stricter rules will give people something 'proper' to aim for and increase the success of more entry's than otherwise. Experience has shown that giving people full artistic freedom is more detrimental to the creative process than even strictest limitations. People are never sure what to make and a lot of out comes are sloppy and un-focused.
