Waiting for contests to end

So, I noticed that there's not really a whole lot going on in the community at this point. There seems to be a huge lack of motivation, and not really much is happening in a manner of mapping.

So what are you guys doing while you wait for this contest to end? I know I came along far too late to get in on the action. So anyways, besides getting ready for the voting process, what are you guys doing? Any big mapping projects?

Personally I am just taking a break. I kinda burned myself out with some of the last minute work on Bayou, which has kinda burned me out on map making and TF2 in general. I am hoping that once this is all done I will have enough energy to start getting back to working on some projects.

I know how that can be, I try to pace myself at making maps but I tend to get on a roll and not want to stop. By the time I'm done for the day, I don't want to open hammer for a week.

Burnout is an unfortunate side effect of the big contests, for both authors and the community as a whole. Authors obviously feel the pressure, and everyone else has to deal with continuous news, more intensive play testing, etc. When all is set and done, a lot of peeps take a break from TF2. Our 'Active Member' count has dipped below 1,000 for the first time in almost half a year.

This was also the longest running event that we have ever done. When you're used to 1 month for random mini-contests and 3.5 from the Payload competition, a full 5 months is a very different experience. Counting the 2 weeks of finals testing followed by a week of voting, you're looking at 5.5 months for this single event. Coupled with the usual slowdown that follows Summer break & precedes Winter break, it's a wonder we're seeing any posts at all, lol.

Back on topic now :p I've been gearing up for the continuation of my ingame training events. I think a return of the miscellaneous fun events will help people get over the hump. I also find it amusing that the contest is ending just in time for me to get ready for the community's next big item :crying: I'm good at improvising, but these things don't happen in a single week, or even a month. Also the band Hinder is playing a local show soon, so I've been debating if they're worth $30.

Burnout: The single cause for late-releases by valve. LOL.

I'm trying to get myself to do something productive that isn't based on a community contest, so I decided to work on my own little KOTH map. :p

Nothing going on!? I got 16 in depth reviews to write and a gameday testing restructuring to complete! Let alone any of my own projects... You speak madness. :p

Well, you're insane. :p

I have to ask though; if a new contest were to come up after this one was over, would you guys participate in it or would you still feel burnt out?

I'm new here so I'm waiting for gamedays to resume (and trying to get my map in decent playable shape by then).

Enjoying the contest maps though (when they aren't crashing TF2, at least).

There is plenty going on. The only thing that isn't going on is the regular style gamedays, so you're just not seeing the new maps.

Resurection of gameedayyy :O:O:O

I can't wait for the next contest so I can hopefully burn myself out on it making an awesome map. I also can't wait for gamedays to start again because I have an opportunity to test my map elsewhere but they want it in a more finished state, which only gameday can achieve :p

Probably won't finish it, since I never really finish my maps, but I'm just beginning on a night-themed CTF map centered on a large courtyard.

Who knows, perhaps this will be my first released map for TF2.
