What it says on the tin. I've started to see more people answering questions (here and otherwise) by telling people to decompile one map or another to see how someone else did something.

As I don't know how to do this, I'm hoping someone could tell me.

1.Get GCF Scape
1.1 Install it.
1.2 Open it. Than press File>open
1.3 Find your Team Fortress location, there you will find ''Team Fortress 2 content''
1.4 Open it up.. Find ''maps''
1.5 Select the map you like and drag it to desktop.
2. Than download and install VMEX
2.1 Open up VMEX, make sure you have Java installed.
2.2 Find the map you threw on your desktop, and select it.
2.3 Wait a bit, and it will be decompiled.
2.4 Now open it in Hammer ;)

If they say decompiled Valve maps, some are already in the SDK, under the name sdk_gamemode_mapname

And for the rest, you can find them here.

Usually easier than quitting steam, finding the right gcf and decompile all.

Thats just evil. Dont decompile.

Decompiling and checking how something is done is NOT evil.

Though, if you decompile a map and change the skybox and lighting and claim that it's a christmas edition that you take 100% credit for, that's evil.

IF your gonna use it for learning then go ahead  but when someone makes his version of a map then he's being very naughty. No one wants to join a server and download 2fort_Super_Edition_Night_Christmas_Event_Super_rc2
(for example)

Nobody who does make rainy versions of 2Fort (for example) knows what rc2 means.
