So, we all know how L4D2 got censored in Australia (and germany, or so I've heard [insert nazi censor joke here]), and how much that sucks. Specially me, I have the censored version.
Anyways, most of us also know that you can change the appid to 590 in a text file to get uncensored, but then it doesn't work with the normal censored L4D2. I've also heard that it isn't illegal to import it, as steam can't tell what country you're from after it's bought.
But what I haven't heard much of is how to actually import it, and what works.
Does buying it from a UK/US website work, or do you need someone to gift it to you from outside Australia/germany?

I also know AyesDyef got the UK version and its uncensored too.

Yeah, german version is censored as well...... /insert rage here
almost no blood, no dismemberment, no bulletholes, corpses disappear immediately

getting it as a gift from a country without censorship is the way to go

Additionally, no uncommon common infected in the campaigns when a german version of L4D2 is involved. But germans get stupid Counterstrike Source weapons... this is the most terrible censorship I can think of.

Wow... It's because of the infected military, isn't it? It amazes me that the censor even makes the experience worse for the rest of the world. Couldn't they just have made the armored infected something else, like... football players? >_>

Thats actually a good idea, especially if a campaign was set in Texas. A bunch of Zombies as you cross a high school football field lit by floodlights at night dressed in football gear and hard to kill and faster and stronger than other zombies.

That actually sounds awesome!

Sounds more like "Plants vs. Zombies".

Well the law is that it can't be sold in Australia.
If you get a friend to gift it to you, it isn't sold here.
Thus, its legal and uncesored.

I heard that paypal won't work when buying the uncensored version from the UK site though, anyone know if this is true?
By the way, I'd really prefer people to say from personal experience, not "I heard that" because (for example) I heard that most australian pies are made from ostriches that were shot in the outback (and most people don't have guns here in Aus, and there are no ostriches native to Australia, that's emus). And by the way I know what emu tastes like (I went to queensland once and tried it on the way there, doesn't taste anything like normal pies).

I assure you, the australian version is VERY censored. There is no dismemberment, corpses vanish before they hit the ground, and blood is not present. You might as well turn on sillygibs. Oh, and you know that bit in the intro with the chainsaw? There's no commons. So you get 3 seconds of a still image of a smoker with backround chainsaw noise, and then ellie getting freed. Heck, the bit near the beginning where they kick open the door has zero gore. I HATE YOU CENSORSHIP! *shakes fist angrily in general direction of Canberra*

Just bought the uncensored version off the UK website with my region set as the UK.
It's still censored. WTF??? I've verified it and it's still censored. I WANNA SEE THAT RIOT COP INFECTED> Anyone know what the problem is? I used visa. Corpses are still disappearing, and there isn't anything like the massive blood I've seen on youtube.

Look at you Steam Store purchase history. Does it say preorder or AU preorder.
In the case of the latter... yourdoinitrong ;)
