Hey guys, those who know me know that I'm very harsh or critical of games. I play games for the challenge and to have a good time. I don't play games to goof around and lulz the time away.

While reading and then responding to this thread please note to be polite. Most of you WILL disagree with me, i know this, I'm not looking for you to agree but i feel why not get a little bit of a stir or debates going on. I shouldn't have to say but being a staff members of this site i will. This is only MY opinion, not the site, or its staff. *whew* Onward.

To say i was disappointed in this demo would be a small understatement. Hated? to strong.. bored out of my mind? more a long the lines of.

So i started to play the demo on Normal, about 10 minutes in it was over and i was left with a "eh" taste in my mouth.

Between running full speed through the campaign with a silenced sub machine gun.. because its close to ZERO recoil and the fact the zombies only take 1 shot to the head it honestly felt like a 7 year old could play and yes, do well at this game.

hell half the time i had one of the many stupid, silly, rediculous weapons out fighting off a horde of zombies.

I think i missed the "This is fun!!" bus.

So i ran it again, this time on expert (no point in advanced) and left with yet again... a "eh" feeling and *gasp* a feeling reminiscent of HALO which is the..

"Hi!! welcome to expert mode. The AI is no more intelligent, nor does it move any better, but they DO hit hard!.. this is so expert!"

Fail..

So i went through the on expert.. however a little slower, but still killing things roughly as fast. easy-expert they all required the same amount of shots. Lame.

Seriously games today try to win you over on fluff and not content, L4D2 is another one of those games ***only based on DEMO!!***

Pros:

It looks very pretty.. understatement, it looks F'ing amazing.
Shooting models is great. shoot a leg.. off the leg, shoot a head, arm, chest etc. all gun. GREAT ragdolls.
Lots of weapons.

Cons:
My list goes to far honestly..
silly secondary weapons.
simple/watered down gameplay.
very boring, no excitement felt.
should have been an expansion.
Weapons don't differ enough.
shooting is to accurate.
difficultly level should raise difficulty.
etc, etc

I can honestly say I've enjoyed none of this demo. It has nothing that as a gamer "I" want.
I want challenging, i want something skilled based, i want to have to think while I play. Sadly this game has none of that.

Am I surprised? No, I honestly didn't feel it would be much of a demo, but I had to give it a go.
Am I surprised it's as bad as i feel? Yes very much so.

Id give it a 2.5/10, hopefully when the game is released it will raise that score by 6 or so.

*************BASED ON DEMO ONLY*************

keep it civil guys.

I do agree with all of the points you made, but judging from how much I played L4D1 in versus mode, this demo/game feels like it was made with that in mind. Versus mode played out drastically different from campaign in L4D1, and the changes in L4D2 lend themselves well to that style of play. I can say that versus is definitely what I'm looking forward to the most.

maybe if you didn't play instagib 8 hours a day you'd find expert challenging.
kind of loss interest once i saw the ugly "left 4 fail 2 review" banner thing. it looks ugly and it's dumb

Boo to you.

regardless of what else i play i SHOULD expect a challange. OMG i can hold my crosshair still and side strafe and get a billion zombie kills?!? so can you and everyone else.

And i havent play QL in about 2 weeks... damn Borderlands.

I played through the demo solo, so I wasn't expecting knocks-your-socks-off gameplay. I was however comparing the experience against playing L4D1 solo, and all told it was very nearly the exact same game. If anything, L4D1 comes across as the superior experience, because it definitely sells the "zombie apocalypse" theme in the visuals and sounds. The L4D2 demo's daylight setting and twangy banjo music really pull me out of the mood.

I still think the versus play will be better than L4D1's, but I have seen nothing in this demo to convince me that these improvements couldn't have been applied to the original game

Left 4 Dead 2 is the most fun I've had in a video game in a long time. Of course you hated it, you probably played it with bots. Don't take the game so seriously. This isn't a single player game. L4D is a game that's meant to be enjoyed with a group of friends. Expert with bots is a cakewalk, the bots aren't able to friendly fire and are aware of everything.

And that banner image is hideous.

The banner adds to the topic =) Its not meant to be a super serious review.

I played with and only with players.

with bots is easier? lolol.. yuck.

And I do.

To me though, a DEMO is supposed to sell the game. Give you a taste and has ou wanting more.

L4D2 far from did this for me.

In this case, I think the demo is more of a "SHUT UP YOU GUYS STILL PROTESTING" thing.

I really like the southern music in it, but I'm from the south, so I can totally see it being like this in the south.

you got to remember that the campaigns get much harder in stages 3-5. In L4D1 you had to be pretty dumb to lose by stage 2.

This is correct, the AI scales up (tactics wise, not just stronger as you mentioned) in each stage according to the AI systems paper from L4D1.

Also I am surprised that they still have not fixed VSync and AA giving a slight (but noticeable) input lag :<

1: If you play the demo on Normal, duh, no wonder you get bored, play it at least on advanced. Normal is Easy, on Advanced you need to pump some more bullets into the living corpses

2: The demo actually convinced me to purchase it (once i´m not broke :p )
I like the raised inaccuracy of the weapons, feels more realistic than the 2km dead-on accuracy of the L4D pistol, and some zombies dont go down on a single pumpgun-spray
I have to agree on the mellee-weapons, i would not trade my infinate ammo dual-wield pistols against a guitar, but thats personal choice, i saw many people going on a killing-spree with the machete
i´d also wish the campaigns felt longer, they feel 30% too short, but that might change in later stages or with alternative routes
the charger feels a bit underpowered in the open field, to easy to dodge
the spitter is perfect, though i didnt play on modded server yet, i have to say that the idea of access-denial or raining down on cornered survivors works well

I'd agree that the fact that you were playing on normal was why you were so bored. Normal, regardless of what it's called, is easymode.

Anyway, melee weapons are a crazy amount of fun. Less useful than a pistol, in some situations, but can be great if you're surrounded.

You might find the demo boring, but don't forget there's many more in the full game; FOUR other 5 stage-campaigns, another 3 stages in the Parish Campaign, Scavange Mode, Survival Mode, VERSUS mode, ...

!!!
