I noticed a "time-based points value" option in the "team_control_point" entity.

If you restricted both teams from winning by controlling "all" (the single cp) could you effectively create a king of the hill style gameplay map? Come to think of it, even with more than one point if desired?

At round end, when a timer runs out (10 minutes or what ever) The winner is resolved via points attained. I should really just test this myself.. but i'm lazy. Theories anyone?

EDIT: i just saw Roden's complex map :p i guess it is possible! Although slightly different to what i had imagined. Do people like this gameplay? Canalzone was similar too.

Oh, that's bloody brilliant. King of the Hill for TF2 would be amazing! If you get it to work they way you were talking about, make a tutorial, I would love to use this gamemode.

I made a map that had a gamemode similar to this, you had to hold the CP for five minutes. The timer reset if the other team captured the point.

I was never satisfied with the way it looked however so I never released it.

I also never really figured out the point system.

Maybe someone could talk to valve and see if they could integrate a small HUD update so a time based points system would be available for cp....

When Roden's map first came out I was not a big fan, but it has improved quite a bit and it has grown on me.

However, that said, I think a map with 3 CP's would be an interesting concept for this game type. On Roden's map I get kinda overwhelmed with the 8 CP's

I think a King of the Hill map with 1 cp point in the middle that everyone had to fight over could be a lot of fun. If someone actually got it to work, a lot of testing would have to be done to find the right capture time and rate at which you got points, but it could prove to be a very intense battle.

There are several "King of the Hill" maps for TF2 but they don't use a time-based point system like that. One team just has to hold the control point for a certain amount of time. A timer counts down to zero when your team is in control instead of points being awarded. I'm working on one, here's another, and FBSbanana lists three.

I am working on a King of the Hill type map.... except the hill itself is more of a component of the map and not the core of it.

Meaning the gameplay won't be time based for the hill CP but simply a Dustbowl style gameplay where Red team has to win more matches than Blu.
