hey guys, well tower is done and released and now im on to my next project. the problem i have run into is that the .bsp file is huge. a whopping 99 mb. granted the map itself is enormous.

something that may also be interesting is when i buildcubemaps, its really slow. i do it first with hdr off then with hdr on. when hdr is off, normally it would go really fast non stop. for this map it does a couple then pauses on 1. when i buildcubemaps with hdr on, its really slow, like each image that cycles past takes about a second or more.

any ideas or is it something i have to live with?

Wait -- when you look down in the pit is that a stack of alpha'ed black layers? If so, select them all, go to the texture application, and set the lightmap scale to the largest possible value. I bet the lightmap for every layer is whats causing the huge filesize.

no its not...i achieved the dark pit by making a custom blend that went from cliff to black the blackness is just brushes with black texture on them...

Lightmaps persist on all visible brushes. If the black texture is visible, up the lightmap to at least 64. Try 32 for the cliff faces.

However, it sounds like your cubemap resolutions are huge, or you have a lot of cubemaps. What are your env_cubemap settings?

dirtyminuth u are gold. i actually copy and pasted the cubemap i had made for the capture point which i had set higher to make extra shiny, so the rest of them were set that high aswell. ++ for my friend.
