When wanting to playtest my last map I've been looking both for public players to test it, but also for competitive clans to give it a try. Public players are pretty easy to find - just set up a server and people will join eventually. The problem is with competitive players. They want to know the map before they play it, and they prefer training on maps that they will play later on that trying out new alpha stuff that will be changed within short time. I've asked people on etf2l forums, other clans I know, some friends in different clans, I even asked the admin on a pickup server if I could try it out once in a PUG. Problem is, they all answered "try it out a few times with another clan and get back to me". It becomes an evil circle - you want to playtest a map but to playtest it the map needs to playtested.
That's why I went here, the endlessly helpful TF2Maps forum! I thought; with this many mappers in the community there's got to be some people involved in the comp scene. We should be able to help each other playtest maps from a competitive point of view both to help our own maps, and to help the competitive community get new maps to play.
I just wanted to see your thoughts and who is interested - maybe we could start a custommaps only pickup or a competitive gameday?
