Sniper's Camper Model Preformance Edition

Release: Oct 22, 2009
Author: Valve Software (Modifications, LOD models, And Collision Mesh by Alex Kreeger)
E-mail: Kreeger242@live.missouristate.edu
Version: 1.0.1

This is a modification of the Sniper's Camper model. It reduces the # of original polygons by

half (30,000 to 13,000). Additionally it includes 3 other LOD models for optimal preformance in

your map, and a collision mesh.

Because the released props_movies models are not included in the tf2 materials.gcf, the textures

needed to be reworked and included in this model. Previously, the camper model used 50 mb of

textures; with some editing, the model now uses only 2.6 mb with of textures.

Zip contains:

camper_op.zip:
*1 model
*2 textures

Extract to: "SteamApps\[username]\team fortress 2\tf" directory to install.

This is great! But it might be more useful if you just remove the interior and make the glass flat. Then you can keep the poly count low without sacrificing so much of the exterior.

edit: or at least remove the rifle model from inside.

wait... what texture file does this use?

Actually, the model uses about 10 different textures...2 for the bobblehead, 1 for the sniper rifle, and the other 7 are for the the camper itself. Like I said before in another thread, the model was intended for cinematics...meaning each of those 7 textures are high quality...expanding the quality of the entire model to cinematic quality.

You're going to have to wait until I can reconfigure EVERYTHING on this model, resize the UV maps, and rework all the textures...I apologize for releasing this model like this, I did not realize the materials were NOT packed in the materials.gcf...

Please wait until further notice. Again, I apologize.

EDIT: I can reduce this to two 1024 x 1024 textures. Please wait for my update.

I want your babies.

Thank you so much.

This amuses me, since you're actually capable of creating them!!

Awesome work rexy, but I'd suggest removing the sniper rifle from it and letting mappers choose to add it in by using the existing sniper rifle model, you can easily cut down several hundred polys with that.

I would but, there's this big ass shadow behind from the baked A/O...and it adds so much to the model. And I'm drunk right now so that obviously effects my ability to want to remove it. Working on the improved model + reasonable packable textures (since the props_movies materials are not packed in the GCF).

Ok!

The model has been updated!

You may now enjoy 3 LOD models, a collision mesh, and reasonable packable filesizes (including textures) @ 2.08 mb packed!

See the top of the thread for details.

Very nice model but.... dude your maps are toooooo big. One 2048x2048 should be enough for this since you only see the sides one time at the moment and you uvmapped them individually :O

But again lovely prop and the texture looks good too!

Yea, i'm surprised your low LOD model still has 3D hinges, handlebar, and windows. But then this is a preconcieved model you didn't make yourself.

You'd be surprised at some of the blatent missing detail in Valve's low LOD models, which also suffers the issue with the removal of the sniper rifle of the remaining baked shadow. Players just don't seem to notice, ingame they're shooting people or trying not to get shot. Not checking the detail inside a vehicle on the other side of a map. I think you could get away with it.

On lod 3 i suggest removing the sniper from the inside, at such long range you often wont notice its in there and if you do its often better for fps to have it simply a flat texture. In fact, most inside parts can be hidden there. Many people just notice the outside and often wont even look at the inside unless they are near the truck.
