According to the comments : because its a sniper deathmatch fest where no team ever wins. Go figure.

EDIT : same reason why instarespawn 32 man servers are so popular, probably. Basically, not playing the same game as we do...

It's small in filesize, it's super scout and sniper friendly, it doesn't take a great PC to run it, and it's simple. I constantly get told by friends that they can't run any map but cp_orange_x at a playable framerate.

It's still a terrible map, though.

The same reason why aim maps infest CS server lists.

I imagine players play CoD, Battlefield and other online fps titles for their share of seriousness gameplay; and because of Valve's mod friendly ettiquette, piss about in said mods. Hence why Mariokart in all its vomit worthy presence gets so much keen attention from the player base.

That said, if players can't get a decent framerate in TF2 then why the hell do the possess any source game? Or any game that was made in the last 7 years, infact.

Maybe a lot of people simply consider TF2 to be less "serious" than other FPS titles because of its art style? It certainly gives better visual context to this kind of nonsense than Counter-Strike and the like. :p Honestly, how many other FPSes have the tongue-in-cheek, half-cartoon, 1960s-spy-movie-parody atmosphere of TF2? It just works better as a place to go for utter nonsense than most other games.

I don't use it for stuff like that, but I can easily see it working better than any other game since most FPSes go for realism in their visual style and overall ambiance.

Lots of people I know are forced to play on it because of computer restrictoins, so I guess it's simplicity is a bonus in that way..

EDIT: Grazr's racing TPG in a post count! Race! Race! Race!
