Ok. So I have this snowman model I want to put in my map, it is in an obj format.
Here's what the entirety of the model folder looks like
snofile.jpg

XSI Mod Tools can import it obj, so that's what I did.
Here's what the model looks like with textures
snoinxsi.jpg

So-after looking at the tutorials, I realize need to make the textures into vtf's. Here's problem number one- there are there are 4 different snow jpg files, and where are the textures for the scarf, hat, carrot nose, stick arms, and coal buttons? And how do I combine these to one file that the model will read correctly?:bored:

I don't know how to model, I've never used XSI Mod Tool before in my life, so please explain terms or complex directions. Thanks for your help.

When I saw the title I thought you were making a snow-textured version of Saxton Hale :p

I never got very far in XSI mod tool in terms of making things, Blender was easier. I can't speak to either one in terms of import/export...

You have to put all those textures into a single texture like so...

uvmap.jpg

Then you have to UV map your model so each part of it matches the correct part of the texture.

Ok. So that's what UV mapping means. But Where are these magical textures coming from? I only see a bunch of snow textures in the file.

They're coming from that folder. Obviously the model was never intended to be exported to a game engine.

So... how do I tell if a model is intended to be exported to a video game?

Also, could I just make my own textures for it, then (re?)UV map it?

And Terr, that is a terrific idea. Someone who knows how to model should definitely do that.

Another possibility: Just make a flat "wooden cut-out" of the snowman, like the fake cow on 2fort.

Yep. You have to re-UV map the whole shibang and make your own texture.
