CTF Hydro

Now no... I would not personally be the one to make this map. If anything I haven't actually made a map yet anyway lol.

I was going through all of the "Meet the [Class]" videos (cuz they make very good Desktop Backgrounds) and noticed that in Meet the Engineer there are about 20 something or more intels in the back of the truck he is sitting next to.

That brings up the question(s):

Was Hydro originally going to be a CTF map?
Will the Engineer Update be releasing an official CTF version.
Or was Hydro going to be converted into CTF at some point but then they forgot.

Also, is there a chance the Engie update will let you put up multiple sentries (as in the video but probably limits of some sort). As well as is there going to be a Hydro map set at night (that isn't custom :p)

Anyway wondering what thoughts you had on both the video as well as Hydro!

CTF is generally symmetrical..

edit: though I guess control point maps are too.

Still, I doubt it.

[Laura Dubuk] This area presented a difficult problem. Since the arena is primarily an interior, there wasn't much we could do to alter its basic structure, so we concentrated on careful management of the interior shapes to create an iconic space. The building is essentially a box with big rectangular windows, contrasted by round elements (generators) in the center. To create depth and parallax, we added linear elements such as railings and cables. We used contrasting values of dark and light on the floor, with walkways to create an interesting value pattern. All these elements work together to draw the player's eye to the flag--which must always be the focal point of the arena.

Thats the only sign of them telling about a flag in hydro. however, it could have been a flag like in Dod at that time which is a capture point there. I think the intel is just something visual in that meet the engy... the intel shows you stole something/did something important. Just a detail making the engy look more powerfull.

Lots of the Meet the Class videos are set in custom or modified maps made just for the short. Doesn't mean they're adding the map to the game.

Meet the Spy had 2fort featuring a door to the intel room, file cabinets inside the intel room, stairs into the basement, a gun rack on the wall holding several weapons, and the Alarm-O-Tron 5000 light board. It also showed a Spy throwing a sapper under a sentry (without it noticing him approaching undisguised and uncloaked, I might add).

But did they add any of that with the Sniper vs. Spy update? ;)

Nineaxis, I may be wrong about it being in Hydro, but I watched the video a couple times in a row. Doesn't the guardrail look a lot like the rail in Hydro?

And as I said earlier there is a chance that it isn't the case and it could have just been used for the short. But I still find it possible. (and yes I did just start 2 sentences with conjunctions)

The problem with hydro is that it is too big for a single monolithic map. Dividing it into three instead of 5(?) areas would certainly help to create larger, more complex rounds that wouldn't necessarily boil down to overtime all the time, & stalemates.

tc is good but the thing is it isn't popular. This is why we only have 1 official tc map so far.

\\CTF_hydro would probably look a bit like this old map of mine...

I almost never see Hydro any more in my server list, and I almost never play CTF either.. It would be fun at first, but like the original Hydro, its novelty would wear off after a while.

<heresy>I'd still rather play Hydro than gravelpit.</heresy>

I think a tc/ctf hydro could work well, like meridian. Being TC means the map changes each round; being ctf instead of cp means it's easier to capture and less likely to stalemate. And with little to no setup time, you won't get a huge engy campfest at each base, since they won't have time to build lots of sentries.

I was going to type these exact words in response, but VFIG already did it for me.

I dont think any of MEET THE SPY was 2fort it just had parts alike it but it seemed to be set in a cave with a small storage room up some stairs. Theres nothing to prove it was 2fort.

But... wasn't Meet the Engineer released after Team Fortress 2? Why would they show an older map? Besides, Meet the Engineer is on Dustbowl.
