entities confused me at first too but basically they are everything thats not a brush (wall, ground, ceiling, ect..). They control how and when things move, lights, weather something is solid or not and many more things. for your spawn point i would consider reading one of the many wonderful tutorials on this site and on the web

and btw brushes can be tied to entitites too

just to say when it says place a prop_dynamic that means to find prop dynamic in the entity window and place one

and to tie something to an entity
press ctrl+t

Additionally, Youme made a nice guide to making cliffs:
http://tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=798

whoa, so i did! lol I might make a few more guides, I think its really dissapointing that more people don't do them. seriously, I'm no expert at displacements but doing a guide made me think about my technique and refine it quite a bit.

Once you've done something a fair few times and you are getting good results and understand what you are doing you should make a guide about it, it really helps you become a better mapper

you normally make a func_respawnroom from a brush then tie it to an entity

i.e make a block that covers the internal area of the respawn room using toolstrigger as the texture , then go to

tools>tie to entity (ctrl+t)

and then you select the func_respawnroom and set the team colours etc

oh... thats a relief^^ so do I have to make a func_respawnroom everytime, or can I like save it to entitys.

and does the block need to be made hollow?

its a block no hollowing out required, just make sure it fills the internals of the spawn room, or things like engies building stuff inside the spawn will happen :)
