A bias on idle maps.

So I was doing my normal forum patrol looking at maps, tutorials etc. and these 2 maps crossed my path. Both idle maps. This one: [ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=9607"]achievement_idler - TF2Maps.net[/ame] was locked for flaming. However, in this thread that was made by an active forum member, was not locked or flamed but was given help and improvement ideas. [ame="http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=9482"]Idle4life - TF2Maps.net[/ame] All I am saying is that things maybe we should be a bit more contestant with locking idle maps.

I think it just cause the other thread was getting trolled. Or maybe dfferent mods have different feelings on idle maps.

They all should be dis-allowed in IMO as well.

I dont think theres any bias, the first poster on one happened to be an image macro type post, the first post on the other sparked discusion.

The difference was caused by the first responder not the author of the map.

Due to the ammount of flaming for idle maps I think we might have to bring official policy on them into review.

In both cases the thread was derailed by someone posting a rule disallowing talk related to Valve's actions against the idle program on a completely different forum. I have no problem with idle maps being posted, but they will be locked if the posters who respond turn it into something other than a discussion about the map.

The posts should just be removed, and the posters post count lowered by one. I'm all for the idle maps being uploaded, becuase some people make them interesting and get feedback on their mapping skills.

I'd also like to point out that a claim of "bias" is kinda silly because the two threads had completely different responders. Not the same ones hating one and liking the other.

Since TPG has a fallacy of composition, the entire forum commits a fallacy of composition. :p

I think the flaming or complimenting is based on the type of people that are on the forums. On here most people are mappers and have some maps that take alot of hard work to make them. An idle map however isnt hard work (as its basicly a box with some details). Thats why its disliked here, those people sound like lazy mappers.

On other forums there might be less mappers and more normal players where many complain about the new unlock system. Those welcome the idle maps and so will give positive comments.

Personaly i think idle maps should be disallowed on here (or read below for the alternative). Simply because most people here are mappers who spend alot of time and dont want to see the map list cluttered with idle maps like fpsb has.
As an alternative you however could have a single topic for ALL achievement maps where people can just post a link to their map (on fpsb) to promote comments going there at least. Some after all still do take some time into making their idle map look good unlike some who dont. A single topic where the 'good' ones are mentioned (posts linking to poor versions simply should be removed) can at least result in some good comments for them.
