Getting started?

I suppose starting over would be the wisest choice then? :) My block sizes are all nonstandard and overlapping in many spots.

Thanks for the tip though, I'll probably work on it tomorrow. Don't plan on doing anything else too complicated till after I get the basic setting down.

I've been working on my map lately, and I'm getting this error:

Map coordinate extents are too large

Description:
Your map is too big (you have brush(es) too near to the edge of the grid) or you have invalid brushes. In 99.9999% (may be an understatement) of the cases, the cause is an invalid brush.

Anyhow here's the textures I'm using right now, but I don't think they're the problem.

My map height is 7104.0 so far...
width is... 6528.0
The map is in the center of the grid, so that shouldn't be it either..

I hope my map isn't too big already :(

The invalid brush is not based on textures.
You probably have a microbrush that decided to go crazy. Have you been carving?

I don't carve, no. lol

No idea what you said about microbrushes.

edit: I'm still not sure what I'm looking for..
Is this problem a texture, the map size, or something else?

Still getting the error:
Host_EndGame: Map coordinate extents are too large!!
Check for errors!

--- Missing Vgui material vgui/..\vgui\icon_con_high
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/../vgui/icon_con_high.vmt
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/../vgui/icon_con_medium.vmt

I'm not sure how to fix this, I've tried deleting sections even and hosting the map without them and I still can't find the problem. (As in I can't run the map)

Map coordinate extents are too large error can be caused by brush origins outside of the map. They often get screwed up when you turn and copy paste brushes around. Fastest method of fixing it is to select whole map and use Center Origins from menu. If you have rotating stuff be sure to unselect them or fix them after. If this metod fails you, there is always cordon tool.

This is the most confusing leak I've had. I tried plugging it below and on top and neither worked..

Otherwise my map's getting along rather nicely. :)

Sure you didn't accidentally make it a func_detail, or one of the faces on the brush is transparent or something?

That happens to me sometimes

I fixed it... I think. No idea how.

But I'm moving on to doors and payload rail-laying. Time to look up a tutorial.

I haven't really done any entity work yet beyond simple lighting so I can see when I run the map.

Hey mappers!

My level's going great, but I got a wee problem.

How the heck do I light up large areas? Do I have to swarm my map with light entities or what? I've set the HDR lighting value up to 1000 and it's still this dark!

Leak?
Map>Load pointfile
Patch the hole the red line goes through.
Entitys (func_detail etc), props and displacements do not seal the map.

EDIT: Also, use point_spotlight with brightness like 3000-7000
