Hello, im new to this site, but was hoping to find a helping hand from the professionals here.

Quite a long time ago i started work on my first TF2 map, spending quite much time on it, i reached a point where i just could not finish the map appropriately. I want to ask here, if someone would be willing to take a look at the map and finish it if they like the concept of it. All i would want is just to see that my map is being used on some servers on steam and get a chance to play with others on it. Would be neat if the name "The Towers" remained.

If you are willing to help, then e-mail me ( baba.o.riley@inbox.lv ) and i will send you the map file.

Why can't you finish it? I would suggest if it's not a time-related issue (ie life is taking up too much time atm) that you spend the time to rework any areas that need to be reworked, and genuinely put in the effort to finish your map. If life is taking up your time then just put it on the back burner, come back at a later date, then finish it.

I doubt any "professional", which I assume you mean experienced level designer and not a real professional necessarily, would want to spend the time to finish someone else's map unless they've been collaborating on it. I'm sure, however, that people are more than willing to look it over and offer advice and feedback, that is after all the point of the Maps forums.

A little tip from the experienced mappers, more information is never a bad idea when asking for help on a problem. The more you tell the rest of us the less we will be responding with question trying to avoid getting in over our heads.

In the mean time, if the map is in a playable state you might want to consider uploading it for the next gameday and listen to what people have to say about it.

Well, time is quite a issue (University and a job), but the main issue would be that i just lack the basic things needed to be a good mapper (like a good geometric understanding). As for the question asking - would want to save the people here from a Wall of Text.

Mostly the case here is that im giving up on the mapping thing, but felt quite sad when i realized that all those hours spent on the map would go to waste.

mapping is something you have to work at. One does not become pro from their first map. That applies to everyone. Everyone has irl priorities, unless they have all the freetime in the world, its all just balancing really. It doesn't hurt to take a long break and go back at it later either, in some cases it can be encouraged if it gives you a fresh mentality.

It is unlikely that someone is going to pick up your map since everyone has their own stuff they are working on. It's more satisfying to say " I built a map from scratch" than to say "I finished someone elses map."

Have you had it tested yet? Check out the Events section, and you'll see we run test gamedays, where you can submit your map to have us play it. Then, you'll be able to effectively fix errors and get a lot of options on it, and develop it further.

No one is ever going to finish someone else's map, because a map is such a huge project. It is likely to take months and months of work to finish one, not to mention all of us here are already working on equally big projects. Having to spend lots of time on a map is not something you can escape, so just keep going, and good luck on it.

Well, thanks. I guess it's just logical that I finish it by myself. Though that means these forums will suffer a serious amount of clueless Help-posts.

Don't worry about that, people are usually very willing to help. There's also our Steam group chat (see the front page), the Valve Developer Community, not to mention we have a bunch of tutorials on this site.

Also don't forget to browse through the Tutorials and Resources forum. I can't tell you how many of my questions have been answered simply because I took the time to look over the fantastic information that can be found in that forum alone.

These forums always suffer from a serious amount of clueless help-posts. Ironicly, this is why we're here.
