Doesn't copying the new version not overwrite the old one? I can try it by deleting any and all files then re-adding them from a fresh download,...

Yeah that's what it was. As I said to crash, it was a 'tools/trigger' textured brush which I had meant to set as a func_nobuild, but had forgotten...

So what exactly have you done? What files do you have where?
C/program files//steam You have two slashes there. Might be that.
