    Hammer is a woefully unstable development tool and I don't think the devs ever bothered to patch it to a semi-reasonable level. When you map with hammer you kinda have to accept that it will crash often, it will crash for nearly inexplicable reasons, it will crash if you don't do anything in it...

    You can use an occludder if there are some walls in your open map. Just make sure to not use too many and to position them in such a way to cover as much rendering as possible.

    Edit: I once tested displacements with physics objects just out of morbid curiosity and using a 5000 unit bumpy plane I didn't have any trouble until I'd sewn 4 power 4 displacements together. So just don't do that...

    You can turn on Disable Vertex Lighting. Though quick question, are you using regular "light" entities or "light_spot" entities with those?
