I have an idea for a TF2 map, however I'm extremely bad at Hammer. I'm a noob at it, I don't know how to do a lot of things, I'm bad at the actual mapping and whatnot, and I don't know how to set up skyboxes/triggers/etc.

So that's why I came here! I love the idea, and I'd love to play the map. Since I, myself, can't make the map, I was hoping I could find someone to take it on as a little sideproject.

I don't care about acknowledgements or credit for the map idea or anything like that, I just want to play the map. xD

Well the map is a TF2 rehash of the Banjo-Kazooie world 'Click Clock Wood.'

If you've played the game, or at least know the world, it is incredible. It's a cleverly-designed level with tons of detail and great music. It's everything you'd want in a platformer level.

Well I thought of TF2, and how good some of the maps look. And I thought of that level in the TF2 style. I think it would just look amazing.

The layout:

It's a 5 point capture map. Red has 2 'seasons' and Blu has 2 'seasons.' The central hub is the neutral point.

Basically it works like Science.

Well... So I put the idea out there and I really hope someone puts some thought or time into this. If anything I'd like it. xD

There's really not much to explain, if you know the level you'll know what I mean, and if you don't then just look it up. There's not much I can say more than 5 caps... each season is a cap and then the central hub is a cap.

I mean seriously.

How NOT to win people over..

Why not post some screenshots of the map, video if they have it so on so forth.

If you have such a great idea, why not try to learn to use Hammer. You have the inspiration and what not, so go ahead and try. ;) we are here to help :)

Well, the reason I don't try to make this map myself is for one: I don't want to ruin an otherwise awesome possibility, and two: I'm very lazy. Oh yah, I may start, and I may start getting better and better... but in about a week I'll stop. I'm so lazy, it'll never get done.

I'm lazy.

I started my map Tyrol nearly a year ago and it's still incomplete.

Am I about to give up anytime soon? No.

Everyone has ideas. The problem is, it's likely no one is interested in devoting hours and hours implementing your idea. It's the same everywhere else. Go on game development forums and it's full of "I have this awesome idea, I just need someone to do with hard part" posts. They never go anywhere. Either you take it all the way yourself, someone takes the idea and goes their own direction with it (and without you), or it dies. No one is going to do your work for you though.

Zappah, even if you think you're lazy, just give mapping a shot! If you continue at it, you might find it very enjoyable, perhaps even to the point where it supplements your main hobby! That'd take care of any laziness on your part right away ;)

So give it a shot, and let is know how it goes :)

I absolutely LOVE Click Clock Wood! I actually would do so, but... it simply wouldn't work as a TF2 level. You'd have to sacrifice too much of the original layout to make it playable for TF2, and I couldn't stand butchering that wonderland.

That, plus all of the custom textures that would be required, as well as copyright (meaning no music) would cause the level to be so far off from the original that it would lose all novelty. :(

Take it from me, about 2 years ago I had a great idea for a map also and like you didn't know Hammer at all. Went to a few forums to see if any mappers would do it and quickly found out that if you want something made, you're gonna have to buck up and learn hammer and do it yourself. 2 years later I couldn't be more happy that I did learn Hammer and now I absolutely love TF2 map making. It's a struggle at first but once you really start getting things down, it's a total blast.

Yeah, Open Blade. That seems to always be the case. Without question, someone picks up hammer out curiosity or desire to make something specific, and once they get past the initial hurdles, they are absolutely hooked :D

Honestly speaking, I haven't actually released a map yet. I started with those "Great ideas!", but realised the amount of textures/models/mechanics that might need to change to make it work.

So now I'm just working on some little arena map in a warehouse. Common, probably a bit boring, but worthwhile experience.

Who knows, maybe one day I'll get that spiraling payload map or the tc set on the 50th floor of a skyscraper or ctf_pokemon....one day....
