Overlays on Props

Hi,

I have a question:
Can i place overlays on a prop using a block in hammer?

You could try using a fully transparent texture brush like tools/invisible and putting an overlay on that.

Indeed. Or use nodraw on a func_brush with shadows disabled. Apply it to that should work. But baring in mind it wont physically be on the model, so you'll need to be accurate in getting the brush to follow the surface of your model. You're limited with what you can do with this though.

Your best bet would probably be just to make your own skin for the model including the overlay on it. I'm sure someone around here could pull that off for you since A) the materials are already there and B) you don't need to edit the model mesh (which is what most time consuming model work involves).

Your best bet would probably be just to make your own skin for the model including the overlay on it. That something i normally do but, im making a model in maya..
Because of my poor knowledge of texturing in maya, i tried to make a simple texture for my model and a text overlay for it....

if your need help uvmapping in maya I can help you kinda! Ive been teaching myself to UV map in maya, and it turns out its alot easier than I expected.

well first off, from what I understand is that you can ONLY use LAMBERT when doing models for Source.

But first off tell me what you know about texturing? Do you know how to place a picture on a material and put it on a model(s)?
