Another gaming night? Ideas?

First off, I am assuming pretty much everyone would like to have another TF2 get together evening.

So, with that assumption in mind I think that it might be a good idea to do a little planning this time around, figure out what maps we want to play, what time / date is best for most people, and line up a server with the maps on it ahead of time.

So. The first bit of business, What Maps to play? Anybody got some maps nearing completion / just released that need some play testing? Some older custom maps you want to play? I can update this top post with map suggestions, then maybe if there are a ton we can make a poll thread with the different maps.

Second bit of business, What Time / Date? This I think is going to be the hardest because of the fact that people on the forums are spread around the world in many different timezones, with the most popular (at least according to my chat logger data) being West USA, East / Midwest USA, Europe.

So while its 4:00 pm on the West coast, its going to be 7:00 PM on the East Coast and 12:00 am in the UK, and beyond that my knowledge of timezones is a bit low. So I dont know how to work that all out.

As for day of the week, I think a weekend is a definite must, so I don't know if we want to plan this for something like mid-day Sunday, like 8:00 PM GMT, that would make it 3:00 PM EST, and 12:00 pm PST. That would allow everyone to participate at once and give us the best shot at maximizing our attendance.

I don't know about other people but I know Friday / Saturday nights can be really hard to plan because I don't know what people I know in real life will be planning those weekends, however I can be pretty much guaranteed to have Sundays clear because nobody wants to hang out in the evenings before work / school.

Third bit of business is something that has just sorta fallen in place at the last second during our last two game days, and that is what server are we going to be using? Maybe the Madcast server we are supposed to be taking over soon? And finally, would someone like Immortal-D or DrPepper be able to upload a custom rotation for the day?
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Date / Time (flexible still)
Feb. 2nd - All day, but try to be there at this time at least:

1pm PST (west coast USA)
4pm EST (east coast USA)
9pm GMT

Potential Maps
-
Note: If you suggested an un-released map below, it is your responsibility to get it to either DrPepper or Immortal-D. Publicly available maps (cp_science + badlands classic) should not be a problem.
  • hacky's ctf_truss
  • cp_science
  • Badlands Classic
  • PkunkBot's Zeppelin
  • VelvetIronFist's ctf_coret_alpha1
  • Dirtyminuth's core
Server
We now have our own TF2maps.net server, more info on the homepage.

It would really have to depend on when it is. I'm still very early on my map contest submission, too early to have anything playable. And ctf_truss is in public beta, but has had enough public testing in alpha that I don't really need it tested.

But if you need a map, I'd be happy to lend truss to the lineup. :)

I would love to see as much T2Mappers maps as possible :)

I wanted to say that time doesn't matters, because I'll join regardless the time. Just like last time. BUT, it was a bit a EU-unfriendly time, and I had a bad day afterwards :p

I further have no wishes for a specific day (looking in my agenda now...)
You might split it to EU and USA if there are time probs, but that also means splitting the community.

Are you requiring maps to be recent ones? Because I'm a fan of cp_science, even though it took a bit to get used to it. =3

As for times... as long as it's after 6:30 MST on any given day, I'll probably be there!

We now have our own TF2maps.net server that should stay relatively stable, so that answers the server question. Now we just need some more map / time suggestions.

Well, how free are people's Saturdays? Mine are generally open all day, and if I have a server to rampage on I know I'll be doing it. Especially if it means shiny new maps to play on.

Any way we can get a general list of people's timezones/free-time going? Be a handy thing to have.

sweet. i was just about to try and organize something like this.
i think saturday 3pm central would benefit many.

1pm west
4pm east
9pm gmt.
i think im right with those times.

also, we should have atleast 4 maps lined up. let me know which ones are chosen so i can upload them to the server! :D

We could, I was not sure if having it this weekend would be to short of notice. When I first made this post I was looking more towards Feb. 9th. At the moment only 3 maps have been suggested.

Also when I first posted this I was not expecting us to really have a server lined up this fast, I had been hoping Crimson would have his dedicated server up and running and would be able to let us use something for the day.

I think it would be fun if we could make this a weekly / bi-weekly occurrence. I am going to see if I can add a poll to the top post.

* edit *
Ok so you cant edit a poll into a post, however I don't think we really need one because I think it would be the most fun to just have a game night / day this weekend.

We need a couple more map ideas though....

I am totally down for this. I think since Drpepper is giving us a server out of his own pocket, we practically owe it to him to play :D Saturday, all day!

Would you guys be interested in trying out an early test of Zeppelin? It's completely playable, if butt ugly while I work on textures and models for it... I've never tried it out with a "full" server, so I'm anxious to see how much will need vast reworking to work. :)

We can give it a shot, hell, we played Boooooooom's map (I believe it was called ctf_laboratory) which probably had even less done. You will need to make sure that either Immortal-D or DrPepper receive a copy they can put on the server.

Also, you should be aware that while it will mainly be mappers on the server, we will most likely not be password protecting it. So if its a map you dont want to be released at all into the wild then it might not be a good idea.

Darn it! I'd love to participate, but I've already agreed to be at a mate's party on Saturday at that time... the 9th would work really well for me tho (in fact I'd be up for a weekly or biweekly event).

Can I ask you to put ctf_coret_alpha1 into the rotation? It looks balls, but I've only had people playing on it occasionally, and then not many; I'm desperate to get some more feedback on how it plays.

Count me in. I'm throwing around the idea of getting core to a playable state (RED / BLU finished, only center needs work). I guarantee the absence of gameplay stopping bugs and blatant visual errors (i.e. checkerboard issues). Would people be up for it?

Velvet: If you can't be around, I'll gladly record some demos of it being played for you. :)

That'd be fantastic if you could do that, PkunkBot! Thanks heaps.
