Hello,

My name is Gijs Smit and i come from the Netherlands. I'm 12 year old and i luv fps's. I map some weeks now but never released something. Because I always had the tendency to start over and over again.
So now I am going to work out a symmetric on paper, do some sketches and going to build it, etc.

My favorite thing to play is Assault CP, and my favorite map is Dustbowl. Oh, I'm trying to be a good medic.

I hope to learn a lot here, it's a great community!

Greetings,
Gijs

Glad to have you w/ us m8 :) I always always making some drawings before I open the editor. Having an outline in front of you makes a huge difference. Be sure to check out the tutorial section if you have any questions, or just search the main forum, as most questions have been covered quite a bit. And there's usually someone in Steam chat who can help. Welcome to the group!

Ive been making maps for years and never made a drawing until my last map. I was at work, nothing to do (literally) and grabbed some paper and a pencil. I drew basic layout and some concept drawings of some key spots and I have to admit it made putting the map together a lot easier. After making 40+ maps without a drawing, i will probably continue that route out of habit. But, I definatly recommend drawing out something first if your not sure exactly what you want from your map when you sit in front of the interface.

Generally its a good idea to do a top down view on your map sort of like your flying over it. Then any parts that you think will be hard to make. If your ok at sketching 3d boxes, try drawing out fronts of buildings, any types of hallways that will get high traffic, capture/intel spots, etc. draw them from an angle so that you get an idea of what it would look like depth, height, and width wise. Doesnt have to look good, just enough to get the brain juices flowing around the idea.
