i get a lot of comments about sightlines on my map pl_cliffedge saying that there is a sightline here do something.
and my question is: is it bad having sightlines?
i am speaking for 2-3 mainly where snipers can exist, cause if i put a fence or something where a sightline is i nerf snipers very badly.

since you can't cure cancer, the only way is to prevent it from getting worse

just block all the sightlines you can find, and let people have fun playing your map

Yes you can :)

Inexperienced mappers will leave feedback pointing out sightlines without any regard to if they are a good sightline or not. It's one of the most common fallacies of this community, because sightlines are easy to point out, determining if they are good or not is not.

Understand that sniper is a class, like the other 8, that must be balanced in your map. This means not only removing places they are too strong, but also leaving in places where they can perform their role. For the same reason you have hiding spots for spy, cover for heavies, perch points for soldier, chokes for demomen and pyros, you want sightlines for snipers.

I recommend that you do not take the fact that people are commenting on your sightline as a bad thing, rather when you are playing your map or watching a demo, study the area and figure out if a single sniper is gaining too much power from it - this usually happens when players have no other choice but to enter his range of sight with little cover. Long sightlines can be fine if they have alternate routes, for example.

I always think it's fair to leave a few sightlines for snipers to have fun with. I don't want any classes to feel excluded on a map. People are going to complain about them no matter what, but like chokepoints, they are sometimes necessary. I say keep them unless they are ALSO watching a choke, in that case, the sight line would be pretty bad.

Come on, sightline isn't a synonym for a bad element. Don't treat them like that. You use them as an element to make a balanced map as well as height, routes and such.

Usually the longest sight lines I have in maps are around 1500 units to 2500 units. Of course you can go larger or smaller than this, but know that if it's smaller than t might not be that significant of a sight, and if it's larger it will become harder to see snipers at the end of it, making it frustrating for players getting sniped through it.

You also generally don't want to have any sightlines going straight to spawn from a long distance away. Of course you will have some small sight lines to the spawn doors, but you don't want to have snipers from across the map sniping people who are just trying to spawn.

Have to agree with others. The new/newer/inexperienced don't like to really play the game. They wanna kill everything and get rewards without the other players able to fight back. ;)
