I noticed that every time I attempt to open hammer, the loading screen pops up and closes the next second. So it looks like hammer is "broken" on my computer. I noticed in the Team Fortress 2 bin folder that everytime I attempt to open hammer and hammer closes I get an .mdmp file that has a title saying hammer_...._accessviolation.mdmp. Can anyone explain this and give some tips for fixing this?

About the hammer.bat: All it does, or at least is supposed to do, is set the "VProject" environment variable. The process of getting to these variables is hard to explain for me because I'm not gonna google translate all this shit. Just google it I gues.
The important bit is that VProject needs to be set as "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf", or whatever your equivalent may be. I don't even know what the negative effects are of not having this variable right, but maybe hammer.bat didn't do it's job properly and is causing crashes?

Have you tried running Hammer as an administrator? You should be able to do that by right-clicking on hammer.exe clicking the "run as administrator" button, assuming you have admin privileges on your machine.
