I'm hoping that was sarcasm when you called 2fort the best

and sawmill...

and you listed a bunch of maps that aren't even ctf.

2fort and sawmill are commonly considered some of the absolute worst maps in the game though

mind explaining your reasons why? 2fort has practically no health or ammo, no way to access the intel without crossing an easily defensive singule point (unless jumping), and it's a chore to play due to corridor-and-crappy-courtyard-itis, and has an incredibly hard to take intel room

landfall on the other hand is open, has a lot of interesting height variation, a layout that allows for multiple classes to flourish while doing the objective (not camping and just ruining mid), while being open enough to allow engies to exist while still being vulnerable.

You started a thread asking people to name their favorite CTF map, and then when someone answered you told them they were wrong
o k

doublecross is a good ctf map imo
2fort is pretty but stalemates the worst out of most ctf maps. doesn't mean it can't be fun
ctf_well is usually pretty fun and is probably the most dynamic official ctf map
ctf_finchy is genius

edit: whoops i forgot landfall existed also
it has a pretty big tree

Emm, 2fort for me is the definition of ctf, the truth is that i never mind the ammo and about the intel room, there is 2 ways to get in so i dont see much problems but landfall, i hate that map, its not only the worst ctf, its the worst map in game, its so
ridiculous that even dont have 3d skybox, the intel is in front of the spawn and the interior lighting is so horrible, the only thing that makes the map ''cool'' is the big tree in middle... CTF is my favorite gamemode but that map is an insult to CTF and i wish Valve delet it!

Landfall and Doublecross are the only good CTF maps

They offer enough varied routes and different combat areas while still keeping the flag defensible, but without putting chokes right on the flag

2fort forces the enemy team to pass through a multiple easily defensible chokes in a row before they can reach the flag, and isbuilt of lots of tiny areas with little combat variety. (2fort_invasion fixes some of the sentry turtle spots with the explosives making them more attackable)
2fort and sawmill also put the flag inside rooms that just can be turtled into impenetrable fortresses.

turbine is just lazy, with two total routes that all combat must pass through, with a single available flank for both

well is well

I think CTF is just kinda bad overall. I like to think of it as somewhat analogous to a post-midfight match of 5CP - except most of the maps are designed such that the 2 CPs that you're fighting between are quite far apart from each other and you spawn close to your own point. Because of the distance between points, trying to make a solid push for the enemy objective makes you more prone to backcaps - plus, your best bet is to try and backcap instead of making a solid push, since the enemy team spawns so closely, and the CP "caps" pretty much instantly.

The last bit of that analogy doesn't work that well, so I guess it's also worth noting that I think flags aren't as good of an objective system as control points. Flags require you to be in a certain position, but you don't have to hold that position at all, which makes it easy to "backcap." Control points rely on making players stand on them for a certain length on time because it forces the team to control the area around them, meaning the team usually has to make a solid push to capture them.

It's also a lot more abstract than other modes in how it encourages teamwork. In CP and PL modes, the objective is pretty much as simple as "stand in this position, bar fills." CTF has restrictions on who can concretely fulfill the objective - only one person can hold one flag, and everyone else on the team has to aid them by trying to protect them. This kind of teamwork can work well if you have good voice communication on your team, but in my experience, the best you can expect in a pub setting is "guys lets get the flag!"

It's worth noting that when maps like Dustbowl and Badlands were converted from TFC to TF2, they were also converted from CTF to CP.

well is well

all's well that ends well

I think Turbine is pretty decent because the spawnroom is separated from the intel room, so you don't have to push past the enemy spawn.

if you dont do that then you have to push through a single choke

landfall has two or three, i don't see your point
When you out the spawn the first thing you see its the intelligence:

So, Landfall has an horrible design...
