I personally don't mind them, but I can see why they'd get annoying to some. Thoughts?

One of the most hotly debated TF2M topics, there's probably 50+ pages of discussion about this burried in the archives

I'd imagine that to be true for any TF2 forum. :p

I honestly feel bad whenever I get a kill with a random crit. Like I really didn't deserve to get that kill, but I got it anyways by sheer luck.

I dislike them but they're not the end of the world.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if they get turned off by default in the next big update giving the increased focus on making TF2 a more competitive game.

"You're about to kill this low health Soldier? Here, have a 270 damage crocket in your face. Oh, and fuck you."

Valve's dev commentary stated something like "random crits are meant to give new players a chance to kill other people" which is completely bollocks. How do you expect newbies to get better if you're giving them kills for free?

I say remove random crits on all weapons, and on melee have them do random mini-crits instead of random crits. That way that whole loadout slot isn't completely useless. Instant-195 damage, what a joke. That kills 7/9 classes instantly.

Random crits are not as bad as fucking autobalance. The autobalance is the thing that should be just removed, or only work in, say, first 2 minutes of the round.
In some games it moves the player with the lowest score, but tf2 just picks a random player, not giving a fuck if that player was just taking his team to victory just to be moved to the opposite team in the end and be shared a defeat.

See: crits are unfair kill/death; balancing is unfair win/lose for a certain random player

I like them. Keeps things a bit chaotic and therefore more fun for me. Going from crit game to nocrits has always felt just dull.

Getting a kill with them is good, getting two crockets in a row on a known nocrit fan is awesome, dying to them isnt all that much worse than dying to a regular shot, especially in cases when I would have been killed by a regular shot anyway, and dodging a crocket is awesome. Don't play competitive and never intend to, so the whole idea of deserving kills aka being entitled to win is meaningless for me.

Their impact on testing results is negligible and the point about newbies not getting better is also moot as the crit still has to be hit and the crit chance is well below 50%.

There is one good thing about nocrits tho and that is keeping STVs free of nocrit whine. Sadly there are individuals who insist on announcing their every single death to crits to the whole server despite everyone on the server being well aware of crits being present. Hearing the same useless noise five times over while reviewing the STV can become quite annoying.

Did somebody say AUTOBALANCE?!?!?!

I feel like they target me specifically, I even sat in spectator to see whether or not people get autobalanced.
"Teams will be autobalanced in 5 seconds."
No, they will not.
I waited and waited for a minute in spec to see somebody get moved to the smaller team, nothing.
Then more people joined and it was balanced again.
Then I join the team that was previously unbalanced because they were losing, and I get autobalanced after my first death because the enemy players were leaving.
And instead of moving literally anybody else who was dead at the time, they take me.
Every. Single. Time.

Random crits are heavily against more experienced players than newer because experienced players wouldn't otherwise die. However newer do die, so it is actually pretty good balancing element.

But still I don't like random crits. When I get them, they feel cheap, even in MvM, and when I die to it it feels unfair because most of the time I wouldn't have died to equal non-crit hit

I haaaaate them.

I doubt Valve will ever scrap them entirely but there are still a lot of times when players should not be able to get random crits. Ubered enemies getting random crits is the worst.

I believe that random crits have a place, and that place is Valve Servers, joke maps, and otherwise far away from me
