Simple. How u make lava? I assume its similar to how you make water, and I understand how to get it to work with a trigger_hurt. HOWEVER I dont know how to get a lava texture on it like the slow moving sort that is seen in halloween hell parts, and I also dont know if the trigger hurt can ignite people. Is there a trigger_ignite? Clear instructions would be most appreciated.

1. the helltower lava texture moves on its own (its in the vmt to do so)
2. you can fill the whole thing with a trigger_hurt or trigger_ignite to make it deadly, just make sure the damage is high enough to kill
3. it will not automatically be nonsolid, either make it a func_brush with solidity off or a displacement with no collisions checked

Id rather not just fall in it fast, is it possible for it to behave like water? I just dont want it acting more of a dying noclip over a slow descent into a molten liquid. Im just wondering if you could make it work with the physics of water, so you can swim in it briefly, or sink into it. I dont want to just fall through as if nothing is there. If you know that would be awesome.

Also, you don't need to use Caps Lock in your thread name. We can read it perfectly fine in lower-case.

Sorry. Ill keep it in mind. I guess I didnt notice that I had caps lock on. I just figured this is one of those sites where certain text inputs force uppercase.

It's impossible to swim in lava for the following reasons:
The viscosity is too high.
All the water in your body's cells evaporates instantly, causing you to explode.

That is why I want water, because falling through it with no collision makes even less sense. It would better work as a solid surface, but I think the current liquid physics would be just fine. Plus its a game where you can survive a rocket to the face, but not a butterfly knife to the back. And with that you can shoot at your own feet with rockets to fly. I dont really think the physics of lava is that important, I was just hoping for something better than no collision

im 90% sure helltower uses nonsolid displacements

EDIT: oops you were right, however they function the same way as nonsolid displacements, are distorted the same way and may even have been modelled from them

in testing i jumped in and fell through as halloween event was not active

FURTHER EDIT: there do exist some displacement lava segments still, backing up that theory, however they are indeed solid

the problem is that falling into lava that doesnt instantly ghost you and then just settling on top just doesnt look right but ultimately its up to the mapper

IMO having no collision on lava is a pretty stupid thing. Just do the same as Valve and make it solid.
For reference: Helltower uses a model, but you can't fall through it as you will turn into a ghost anyways. Meanwhile Hellfire appears to be using displacements which are solid.
This video should help you:

Thanks to both of you for the info. I'll look into putting lava into a map.

Quick tip, unrealistic makes this game good, also backstabbing causes neuromuscular shock, as the metal penetrates the spinal chord. If it doesn't kill you, you'd either be dead soon, or a quadriplegic

also, careful with making things solid, as it can mess with certain prop_dynamic objects, such as the payload or other loose objects
